To say electric is cheaper is monumentally dumb at best. Oil is getting cheaper to procure and new fields are being found almost every month. The technology to run cars while many aspects is matured there are still at Vance's to be made. I mean this whole discussion is an exercise in futility because it's all going to come down to how much money will it take to convert from one type of market economy to another and to be perfectly clear, we simply don't have those resources nor the psychological desire to do so. Many of the smaller motors do not have energy Regulators on them so the output is just free flow oh, there's a lack of circuitry to be affected plus, one can build a plus, one can build a hit and miss motor by going to Home Depot in about an hour and a half Max.

how do you see them taking off without massive tax and gov't subsidies in a time when budgets are constantly challenged. You think Exxon and the like are investing in this when oil is plentiful, cheap, delivery and use systems are well established? Not to mention the jobs etc. Not only that, but until battery technology gives us a car that can go 65mph for 500 miles, many are not buying

A little exercise I'd do with my grad students when they do exercises like this. on point however, electric cars may be more prevalent in wealthy areas like ct, nj, ny and cali but their sales have lagged much of the country despite the massive tax and gov't aid . 50yrs may be too soon....

I have to admit, I'm surprised by some of the comments in here. Sandy was nothing and on day 9 we had reports of looting in Keynesburg and Atlantic Highlands. Keynesburg had signs of 'loot I shoot', I saw with my own eyes helping out our local municipality. We were out of electricity for 12 days and it was localized. Imagine that devastation to the electrical system for 1000miles and you have problems that are exponentially greater than what we saw. Bear in mind, we knew help was coming and the psyche of catastrophe is something to NEVER UNDERESTIMATE buy a pull start generator, convert it to tri fuel and you light yrs ahead of everyone. Those little harbor freight generators are perfect, buy 2 have a large supply of canned food, rice, candles, powdered milk, propane and the like on hand at all times. Never forget, desperate people do desperate things.
