  1. ok thanks. ill check into my town specifically. my one neighbor is pretty close but considering how we have pretty loud gatherings every weekend in the late pm im sure they wont mind a little noise during the day. so as long as its legal im sure my neighbors should be understanding... hopefully.
  2. does anyone know the basic rules of shooting on my property? i know my coworker has a full blown shooting range in his back yard but he literally has no neighbors even remotely close to him, and when i asked he said he has no idea what the laws are or whether or not his set up is even legal. i know people who shoot 22 rifles in their backyards with neighbors right next to them and people who shoot clay pidgeons with neighbors fairly close too. but then again I also know people who have been arrested for shooting pellet guns at beer bottles too close to their neighbors houses too. it seems that everyone i ask has no idea what the laws are. i have been doing a pretty bad job finding decent information on google and i sure as hell dont want to find out the hard way.
  3. im looking for the best place to buy pistol ammo online while living in nj. ive heard that some websites hassle you for being in nj and make us jump through hoops. so i suppose in terms of price, hassle free, customer service etc. the reason is that im thinking about whether or not I should get a 10mm or a 45 acp pistol and the only 2 places around me that sell 10mm ammo has like 1 or 2 brands and theyre ridiculously expensive. so the deciding factor will be on whether or not I can get it cheaper online from a good site.
  4. ive never had the pleasure of carrying but my grandpa used to alternate between a short .38 revolver and a small glock. probably a 9mm or .40 cal if i had to guess im not sure though.. thats my 2 cents. i know i wasnt of much help
  5. ok thanks good to know. ill probably pick up like 5 or 6 in that case
  6. yeah i ended up getting my one coworker who is a retired cop as a reference and my friend Ive known forever. my police department gave me 2 papers that had a ton of boxes that had to be checked off and then signed. I think I should be good. the officer at the police station said getting the papers checked and signed is the easiest thing otherwise they will have to call them and ask all the questions over the phone
  7. ok so i just moved to nj and im currently filling out my firearms id and pistol permit application. ive got my references all sorted out and what not, but my question is whether i would be less likely to get approved if i apply for several pistol permits? i figure with all of these hoops i have to jump through id prefer to get multiple and buy like 2 or 3 on a credit card and pay it off rather than have to apply and wait everytime I want one. in anyones experience have you be denied for this? or had to wait longer than average?
  8. that's what i was originally thinking, but my uncle had advised me that if i went that route i would have had to leave my guns in PA and then wait for an FID and get multiple pistol permits here and then bring them after the fact. I'm not sure if that's true since he has always lived in nj and never had to do any of that, and the only gun he owns was inherited through my grandpas will.
  9. oops sorry. i meant to post this in the general firearms forum.
  10. im new to this state and i just established my residency and picked up a FID and pistol permit application with a friend of mine. my first and main question is: would it be ok for me to use my friend as a reference if he is also applying? also do the people i use have to have spotless backgrounds? my friends in my old town all have blemishes on their records. (restraining order from ex wife, DUIs, other random misdemeanor arrests). i have a perfect record and havent even gotten a speeding ticket but i dont want to screw myself by picking an idiot reference. i dont know most of the people at work well enough yet that i would ask them. i dont want to put them in an uncomfortable spot.
  11. haha figures. so i can in fact have a pistol grip and an adjustable stock? also what is the law for ammo capacity? i will be buying it here anyway so I'm sure it will be legal, but I'm just curious.
  12. hey guys i just wanted to formally introduce myself. I am alex, i have been holding off on buying my first firearm for the past couple of years because i knew i would eventually be moving to new jersey where the majority of my family lives and i heard that it would be a ridiculous process to legally get any guns switched to this state. none of my family members in this state own firearms. that being said, i have come to join your forum community to seek advice and become more aware of the laws and regulations around firearms to help me get started, and eventually once i become more familiar i can start helping other people on here in the future.
  13. I'm new here and new to the state so please bear with me. so i was reading the laws on wikipedia and i have a question since i know wikipedia isnt always the most reliable source. it says an assault weapon would be considered: Semi-automatic shotguns with two or more of the following: Folding or telescoping stock Pistol grip Detachable magazine. does this mean I could have a PUMP shotgun with an adjustable stock AND a pistol grip? thanks in advance.
