  1. So I get that, but N.J.S.A 2C:39-6(f)(1) still requires firearms to be transported per N.J.S.A 2C:39-6(g) which includes the necessary deviation drivel. N.J.S.A 2C:39-6(g) "g. All weapons being transported under paragraph (2) of subsection b., subsection e., or paragraph (1) or (3) of subsection f. of this section shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported, and in the course of travel shall include only such deviations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances."
  2. I don't have it in front of me, but I remember reading that part of the book and still being confused on what the "pistol club exemption" really meant.
  3. I've wondered about whether I could legally take my pistol to my parents' house and shoot with my father if I have a lease for $1 and a key to the house. I'm guessing that it is a viable loophole. OP - as others have said, long guns are fine as long as you have your FID.
  4. I keep scanned copies of my handgun permits, COEs, and store receipts on my computer, which gets backed up automatically. I also keep a maintenance spreadsheet for all of my guns, that lists make, model, serial number, the dates I shot, how much & what I shot, when I cleaned, and any notes (like if it didn't like the ammo I shot, etc). I keep the permits, COEs and receipts in case anything happens to the guns. I keep the maintenance spreadsheet because I'm crazy...
  5. Ah, good to know. Hopefully I'll never have the need to ship any of my guns back to the manufacturer, but at least I wouldn't be risking prison to do it. This state is so screwed up. Only in NJ would it even be a question...
  6. Is driving to UPS to ship a handgun an exempted activity under NJ law? I think not after reading 2C:39-6.
  7. I would be interested to see these stats as a percentage of population. It's very difficult to have a bunch of murders in a county of ten people. I'm not saying that gun ownership does not correlate with murders or lack thereof, but 10 murders could be an epidemic or a really low rate depending on the population. Almost. Maricopa county in Arizona is the one that stands out, but they've got other problems that most of the other areas don't really have.
  8. You could solve that problem by going to a shop and buying the VP9 before your permits are approved. Quite a number of shops will do it.
  9. I you can rent them, I'd recommend buying whichever feels best during your range session. If not, get whichever feels best in your hands. You really can't go wrong with a VP9 or a PPQ. For my first handgun, I narrowed it down to VP9, P320 and PPQ in that order. I was convinced at one point that I would buy all 3, but the budget dictated only two. My first 9mm was my VP9 LE and I recently picked up a P320 Compact. Btw, with the VP9 mag release, I either use my trigger finger, or since I hold my gun with both hands, I hit it with my support hand and grab the magazine in one fluid motion. I also can't reach it with my stubby thumb if I don't break my grip.
  10. http://ammoseek.com/ammo/9mm-luger/Federal?ikw=guard Not much choice. I wonder if Federal is even making Guard Dog anymore?
  11. A lawyer would be the "safest" way to complete the application, but a call to the NJ State Police Firearms Investigation Unit at 609-882-2000 Extension 2290 (Phone) may shed some light as well. I agree that it is extremely vague and is most likely an intentional trap. Edit: If you're an ANJRPC member, you could try calling one of their lawyers on retainer to see if they can answer your question for free.
  12. I'm assuming that's because you could make an AR pistol, correct? Does a stripped lower require a pistol permit then?
  13. My wallet has some largish pockets, so I have no issue keeping it in there 24/7. It is, of course, laminated. http://www.carhartt.com/products/carhartt-men-wallets/Oil-Tan-Passcase-Wallet-61-2234 Built like a tank and fits my FID. I keep it on me in case I need to buy some handgun ammo, see a gun I like, come across a deal too good to pass up, etc. Also, I recommend the thickest lamination offering from Staples. It's about the thickness of a credit card when all is said and done.
  14. I was feeling a bit more benevolent until I read that he has priors. Sounds like he's on the path to becoming a real upstanding citizen (of the NJ state prison system). lol As for the whole AR and HP thing, do you really expect people who probably have never held a gun to know the gun laws of this state? Most police don't even know the laws without looking them up due to the amazing complexity and insanity.
  15. I would imagine it has something to do with Form 4473 question 11a, which asks whether you're the actual purchaser or not.
  16. ANJRPC is an affiliated club, so it looks like I'm good there, but does anyone know if the CMP requires it to be a range membership? I'm about 2 hours from Cherry Ridge, so I'm a non-range member. Just need to prove marksmanship...And save up a bunch of cash.
  17. Someone was shooting a steel gong when I was at Range 14 last week. Looked like they were having a good time. You got that right. I could swing the yearly dues (which aren't cheap either) but the $600 buy in is a no-go. I drive right past CJRPC on my way to Range 14. lol
  18. A combination of almost every suggestion is what I did on my previous car. I bought it used and thought the smell wouldn't be so bad...lol. First, replace your cabin air filter. Next, clean ALL plastic/vinyl/rubber/leather surfaces with something that can remove the tar. If it feels sticky, you need to clean the crap out of it. Then, use a TON of Febreze (they make one specific for car upholstery). Finally, leave your windows open on nice days, and drive with the windows down as much as possible. One more suggestion. Once you get your car smelling right, make sure that anyone who might even think of smoking in your car knows what you're capable of.
  19. I went on Wednesday and had a great time.
  20. Very nice looking! I've never been a huge Glock fan but I'd feel like a boss at the range with that in my hands! Enjoy!
  21. Not bad if you're in a bind and need it now. My closest local shop usually has PMC .223 for $7.99 a box, so this is an improvement over that. Admittedly, I was excited when I saw this, until I realized that the 20% off coupon I got the other day isn't valid on ammo. Oh well, I have enough .223 to last me until the weather gets nicer (and hopefully prices continue to fall!).
  22. All right...maybe it's too good of a deal to pass up. 10 boxes ordered! Is there a better way to spend my NJ tax refund than on a case of ammo? Thanks New Jersey! (I think this might be the only time I ever say that!)
