@FXDX Just a heads up, Czechpoint and Atlantic Firearms both sell them for ~1k. They're NJ legal and if you lock the magazine in place (or buy the Liberty version) you can use stripper clips to load and completely forget the features BS if you want the paratrooper version.

I get what you're saying, but at this point in time I see deals on AR/AK/Glock and several other common mfg. mags in the $8-12 range regularly on various websites. Considering the fact that most of the users here are enthusiasts and seem to have no issues spending plenty of money on all sorts of stuff (good for them), it would still seem wisest to just purchase the regular magazines. Look at it from a collector's point of view, if anything the regular magazines could spike back to $30+ a piece in a bad political climate, or become "pre-ban" themselves again one day. Hopefully not, of course. But they have the advantage of being overall better, and more desirable, in all circumstances compared to neutered jersey junk.

I tell this to everyone every time I see one of these threads and I have no idea why no one gets it. If you're storing magazines "out of state", then just store regular magazines there. Your neutered Jersey junk is worth nothing. In the eyes of the law, it's all the same after 10 rounds.

I always wonder why individual civilians with 10 or 15) round magazines compare their rifles to fully automatic versions with double and triple the capacity being used by an entire squad of shooters. If I've got 1/3 the shots, only 1 rifle in use, and no fun switch, the scales clearly and easily begin to tip towards 7.62x39/51/54

Bhunted you did nothing wrong, and sold those rifles for precisely what they're worth. You don't have to justify why you sold something for market value. The people who think they will get $1400 for the Lastname Tactical SOPMOD edition are the ones that should have to justify. I'm not trying to call out anyone in particular but there is a particular hilariously expensive (non AR) listing that's been getting bumped for ages now and the buyer just doesn't get the hint.

Just cause you dumped $1200, $1400, $1800 into it doesn't mean it's worth that much You can buy an AR rifle kit in pretty much any caliber and config, for as low as $299 right now. $400 complete rifles are common. I see what some people are asking for theirs in the marketplace and laugh. No offense but just because you blew $2k on some Lastname Tactical and Adjective Defense crap they sold you on at some rip off newbies "build an AR-15" class back in 2010 doesn't mean I'm going to waste my money it when I can literally get 3 of the same rifle brand new at the price you want for your old, used rifle with some comic book character sticker on it. The only reason anyone is even entertaining your offers is because you're on an NJ gun board. Go on a national forum and try selling at these prices you would be laughed off the boards. People can get mad all they want...less than 60 days left to do private sales. Time to swallow your pride, admit the real price, and sell for actual value.

I think you should jump on it, of course it's safe. There really isn't anything to it, most parts from most mfg all conform to the same specs and tolerances. Some guys just pay 3x more for the name etched into the side. The AR-15 came down in price because pretty much anyone with the right kind of FFL and a CNC setup can make receivers and sell at a profit for less than $50 each. Like I said, a lot of the attitudes around the AR-15 are outdated. Yes they used to be overpriced, delicate jam-o-matics but those days are over, people all over are plinking with $400 AR's every weekend.

The AR-15 has changed a lot in price and reliability over the last ten years. Considering you can easily find deals on a complete AR-15 in the ~$400 range, even with the greediest FFL fees you're still looking at my maybe $500-550 out the door, tops. Multiple members are even selling theirs in that price range. If I was getting into the AR game I would ask myself if the fancy names are really worth tripling the price.

No because people in NJ aren't morons and don't over think this stuff because they aren't trying to catch you on a technicality and screw you. Concealed generally means some form of "I can't readily and easily tell that you're carrying a gun" Also in most states things like improper transport or not properly concealing are generally just a fine, not a felony like in NJ so if you do have to learn a lesson it's to the tune of only a couple hundred bucks. Just to point out to everyone, BobA has a good point. In NJ you think you know "gun owners" but you don't. You just know a small group of enthusiasts, because that's pretty much the only people you'll encounter at a gun range here, even double so at a private club. In other places, anyone can own a gun pretty much, except the usual prohibitions. So you get "all sorts". Still, doesn't mean we shouldn't hope for it to be like that here. I'd rather have "all sorts" than only the chosen few as it is now.

I'm well aware of what a retention holster is. I've carried with one plenty of times, in NJ too, when I used to have a carry permit here. If could carry today in an ideal world, it would probably be a mix of open and concealed, mostly dependent on what I'm wearing that day. That said, I stand by my comments that open carry is most certainly not for everyone to do. However, it is up to the individual to come to that conclusion, not the nanny state.

You're not wrong. From a practical standpoint, open carry is useless unless you are both physically capable of resisting a hand-to-hand struggle for your gun, and aware of your surroundings at all times. Think of the type of training police officers have. If you are not capable of these things then open carry is not for you and probably going to have a higher chance of getting you killed than saving your life. I suppose in a very rural setting or some such, it does become a lot more useful as you can just carry a normal size firearm in a comfortable way. That said, open carry is generally done "because I can" and the fact of the matter is, the second amendment does not state why, it just states that you can. So if someone wants to open carry, there is no (constitutional) reason they cannot.
