  1. Thanks for the responses. Again, I would much rather be sure of how things work in the state and then comply appropriately rather than make assumptions. Plus you never know when something out of the ordinary can happen that makes a simple trip a mess. I had an alternator go out on me on the Los Angeles 101 Freeway once. (During morning rush hour AND on the exit ramp no less)
  2. My last traffic ticket was in 2004. Never had my trunk searched. I'm a careful driver.....but Murphy's Law combined with NJ's strict laws makes me err on the side of extreme caution.
  3. In NJ moving things to the new residence. And yes, they'd be locked and unloaded and in the trunk. From the trooper's perspective though, I would assume he/she wouldn't automatically take someone solely on their word without some corroboration.
  4. Hi all - have one follow-up question: what is needed to prove you are actually moving when you are driving to the new residence? (Other than having a car filled with personal belongings) Is there a proper way to respond if pulled over or another issue with the vehicle arises?
  5. Thanks for the replies. I am moving to NJ. After selling the other property, the NJ home will be my primary (and only) residence and only property I own.
  6. Hi all - I read that it becomes legal to move firearms into NJ "after establishing residency." I already own property but my driver's license is still another state. (I am still in the process of moving things from one state to NJ - running several trips) Does my driver's license need to be an NJ one prior to driving the firearms to the new home to comply with NJ residency law or is owning the property enough?
  7. I could, but would like to avoid it if possible. Does moving the firearms truly provide an exception to the statute?
  8. Thanks guys....If shipped to a dealer, would the owner need a Firearm's Purchaser ID Card or proof of ownership alone since they are already the legal property of the owner? (Or does shipping to a dealer relinquish the original ownership?)
  9. Hello I read that ATF rules and federal law allow a firearms owner to mail long guns he/she already (legally purchased in another state) owns to him/herself via USPS. I am planning on moving to NJ. Are there any state laws or regulations that would bar mailing to NJ legal long guns to the new residence?
