  1. Thanks for the clarification and offers guys. @capt14k Thanks for the dibs but it's all yours. I'm not currently in the market for one but will be eventually. I was just curious because I've looked into them in the past but thought they were no-nos in NJ, then I came across talk about it in the forums.
  2. Exactly, there's a semi auto version on it. I know the classic drum mag definitely wouldnt fly in NJ, not sure about the gun itself. I always thought they were no-nos but now I'm not sure.
  3. Are Thompson semi auto's NJ legal? I always thought they were cool but that I'd never be able to get one as an NJ resident (since they have a flash suppressor on the end); but I'm seeing some older threads that say these are NJ legal (at least the 1927 A1 model) and even some online vendors selling it as "NJ legal". what's the story with these?
  4. Thanks! I wont be able to make this sunday, how often do these meetups occur? And is this strictly an organized event (match/competition) or can this be treated like a meet 'n shoot kind of thing?
  5. Sorry, just realized there is a section devoted to this, feel free to move the post
  6. I'm a bit of a history nerd and would really like to try shooting some historic firearms but I don't know where I could. I'm talking old stuff like match lock, flint lock, blunderbuss, etc. Are there any special places that offer this, even if outside NJ?
  7. I'm just assuming that because she had an attitude about it. You could be right though. either way, if she is an anti I know she'd be more than willing to make this a messy situation if I temp it. See my above post about the backstop.
  8. Of course, I actually spent a few days with a skidsteer leveling the ground and building a 7-8 foot tall backstop from dirt, rocks, wood, etc. It's also on a hill where I shoot so the bullets go into the ground anyway, the backstop is just an extra protective measure incase I accidentally shoot real high or something.
  9. Damn, I just looked into SCFGPA, it's the closest range/club to me and seems like it'd be great, but they're not accepting new members at the moment. I'd love to check out PPC, i'll PM you once I settle my schedule to see if we can arrange something. Yeah I know it's private property but knowing that someone is sitting there pussfaced because of distant gunshots in a such a gun-unfriendly state makes me feel uncomfortable (she wasnt just politely asking, she was kind of a bitch about it, I almost thought one of my bullets landed on her property or something with how annoyed she seemed about it.)
  10. I live in the Oldwick/Whitehouse area. By rifle I mean .223/5.56. As for right now pistol shooting is my main focus, I'd just like the option of occasionally shooting rifles or shotguns. Being able to shoot more than just paper (steel targets, cans, whatever) is a huge plus but I understand a lot of places dont allow that. Having freedom of time is great too, coming in early on the weekends or in the evening on weekdays without having to come only during a specific window of time. A good community feel is a plus too, I'd like to be able to meet some other shooters in the area. As for yardage, the more the better though I'd mainly be doing 25-100, depending on what I'm shooting. Old school is fine by me, I dont need all that high tech stuff (though thats always good to have too).
  11. I used to be able to shoot on private family property in Hunterdon, which was awesome, but I guess we have some new neighbors who complained to us about me shooting my 9mm yesterday (never had a problem before, 60 acres in heavily wooded area, hunters come on the property all the time without complaint, guessing they're antis just being dicks). Anyway, I really don't want to poke at the hornets nest, being that owning a gun feels more like a probationary privilege than a right in NJ and all it takes is one complaint to get the cops at my door. So I'm trying to find a new home where I can shoot in peace. I was looking at the Philipsburg Pistol Club and was wondering if there are any members on the forum who could tell me about it. How can I join? How often can you go there to shoot? I looked at their website but it doesn't have anything for prospective members. Any information/experiences would be appreciated. My other option is RTSP, or joining both if the Philipsburg dues arent too high; being able to shoot outdoors is a big plus for me but I want to be able to shoot rifles too. Any other insights would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  12. Oh I've been balls deep in the social media circus on the subject, just more of the "AR47s are super semi automatic laser cannons that have attachments for Hannibal's death elefants" side than the NRA side. I knew their insurance was affected, didn't know it screwed the whole program though.
  13. Well damn... I saw that but thought it was only for a specific insurer, not the entire program. I wonder what prompted this.
  14. I joined the NRA a few months ago and they sent me a link to activate free firearms insurance, which I did not activate at the time. I just got myself a new pistol last week and thought it'd be wise to finally check this insurance out, but that activation link comes back with "resource has been removes or is temporarily unavailable". I tried doing it through the online membership site and saw nothing about it. I did a google search, the few links I found for it (in articles talking about/advertising it) also don't come back with anything. I can't find anything saying it is no longer available but also can't find anything allowing me to activate it. Would this have anything to do with all the pressure put on the NRA recently? I saw an article about how NY isn't allowing their insurance anymore, wasn't sure if something similar happened in NJ/nationwide or if this has something to do with the insurers dropping the NRA. Does anyone know anything about this?
  15. I'm looking to get into fishing this summer. I used to go when I was younger but always used other peoples' gear. Aside from the obvious (pole, line, etc.) what gear should I pick up to get myself started? This would be for fresh water shore/boat fishing. Also, being that this is New Jersey, do I need some sort of license/permit? Thanks!
