Transporting from NJ to FL
Jravv1 replied to Jravv1's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
Update. After I posted on here I did some more research and on the Capital Police and MTAP page they acknowledge transporting through under Fopa. I also read into the two cases that happened in MD where the FL resident with a CCW was pulled over and his vehicle searched cause his wife said that the husband had a gun. The other guy with the pickup had his gun and ammo in the same bag. So, I did the 81 through Pa, MD, WV, VA, TN, GA, La and FL. Spent the night in TN. Gun locked in a case on the farthest side of the rear, no trunk, and the ammo also locked in a smaller box on the opposite side of my pistol. 2 nights in Destin then to the east coast of FL. On the way up we decided to stop in Va for the night. Came up on 95, took 301 just to be on the safe side and over the Chesapeake Bay and back on 301 to avoid Baltimore. Then you enter NJ and you start getting aholes sleeping on the left lane. You keep heading north and you start seeing smoke stacks, refineries, air planes every 2 minutes and it hits you. Back to bs. 81 route no tolls. Save for half a tank of fuel. Get ready to count crosses. Lol. -

Should I avoid the District of Columbia or no worries? -
If these laws are passed and I'm sure they will be, what else will they come up with?

Under FOPA, notwithstanding any state or local law, a person is entitled to transport a firearm from any place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry it. If I have a FL CCW, does this mean that I need to have a carry permit in NJ to be protected under FOPA? Where he or she may lawfully possess AND carry is a bit confusing and I have read that it only applies if you have a ccw from point of origin to your destination.
