    Medical Marijuana = No Permits

The problem is marijuana has no justification for being a Schedule 1 drug. "Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are". - Hm, nope "Schedule II drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a high potential for abuse, with use potentially leading to severe psychological or physical dependence." - Nope "Schedule III drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence. Schedule III drugs abuse potential is less than Schedule I and Schedule II drugs but more than Schedule IV." - That'd still be a huge stretch. "Schedule IV drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence." - I guess you could argue for that. But hell, if you told someone how easy a lot of people get addicted to alcohol without saying the drug is alcohol, people would probably call it at least Schedule III. Yet having a few beers per night is okay but smoke some weed to relax and suddenly you get treated like a felon? It just doesn't make any logical sense. There are always idiots who drive impaired whether it's alcohol or weed or painkillers. And it's a damn shame that innocent people die as a result. I just find it hypocritical that there are so many people who rally against weed because people might get high and drive but have no problem knocking back a few beers before getting behind the wheel.

    Range 129

New range opening this month (Hopefully). Absecon, NJ. Opening was drastically delayed, I'm guessing probably permit stuff but I don't really know. Two indoor ranges. A 25 yard pistol/rimfire range and a 100 yard rifle range. Target system will be digital so you can set the exact distance you want. Decent hours. 9am-9pm Mon-Sat and 9am-6pm Sun. Huge show room. I can't wait! Anyone else planning on checking it out once it opens?

    Range 129

Yea, inventory is still limited. They did say the most hassle they were given for this whole thing was being able to sell guns. Though maybe they need help with knowing what people want these days. Pistol range is always busy when I'm there so I'm not surprised most of their inventory is handguns. Small other update: they took my suggestion and got stools for the rifle range so you can shoot from the seated position. They also got a couple nice shooting mats so people can shoot prone who are interested in trying that but don't have their own. I think quite a few people have been shooting prone as they've modified the targets to be lower for those who are prone.

looking to buy my first rifle

Honestly, I really wanted a SCAR. The FN 17S just looks badass. But that price tag is killer for me. Plus for that price tag, I could get a S&W M&P10 in .308, a Sig P320 in .45 for the wife, a S&W M&P9 for myself, and still have $1,300 for ammo. I'm definitely glad I started with .22s. The recoil is nothing and I can buy 5,000 rounds of high quality .22lr for $300 whereas you are paying 5X the price for good 9mm or decent .223. But if you just want to have a shiny toy that's fun AF and money is no issue, screw it. get the SCAR!

    22 Thoughts

I do enjoy my Walther P22 Target. Price wasn't bad at all. Slightly longer barrel than the normal P22 with a stabilizer. Ergonomics are fantastic (unless you have large hands). I've heard it can be finicky with ammo but since I just use mini-mags on my .22s, no big deal. Perfect beginner gun IMO.
  6. Manufacturers should just start calling everything "defense rifles" and "personal protections handguns".
  7. Fun watching the improvement over time. First pic is when I first got the rifle (M&P 15-22), second is from yesterday. Both are at 25 yards. Groupings definitely tightening up. Not rushing shots as much, a little more focus on breathing. Looks like I need to adjust my red dot a little bit to the right and maybe a smidge up. Still really want to go somewhere with a longer range. Can't wait for Range 129 to open up with their 100 yard indoor range. Slightly more embarrassing, my last trip where I shot my Walther P22. 10 yards and 7 yards. Definitely needs a lot of work. Are there any one-on-one instructor programs in Southeastern NJ? As much as I nerd out about everything and can figure out a lot of stuff from video and reading, sometimes you just need that in-person help.
  8. That was a rough morning for me.

I love that M&P 15-22. It's fun as hell. I also have a Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 I acquired not super long ago. And a Walther P22 but that's for when I feel like changing things up from rifle shooting. CCI Mini-Mags.

Right now? It'd be .223 for my Ruger. Eventually when I work my way up in calibers, those too. A 1 second google search clued me in on that. Plus I can buy 5,000 rounds at $0.06/rd and I just got a 20% off rebate.

Found a range 30 minutes out that is $45/yr membership that has a pistol range 25/50 yards for targets, a rifle range that is 25/50 yards, a rifle range that is 100, 200, and 300 yards, AND a shotgun range. Hell of a deal. AND I can finally get into reloading!

What benefits are there for having a NRA membership?

Hey, I put up with a lot of BS but this has gone too far. You'll never catch me inside a Starbucks. I am not basic AF.

One thing I do find interesting is the NRA says that their membership is a little over 5 million people. That leaves a lottttttt of gun owners not members. That's a small minority who are actually in the NRA. Maksim, you make some good points. Honestly, being on the mild side of the gun control debate you just get ignored on the national stage. At the top level, it's all or nothing. And I truly enjoy shooting. I truly believe we have a right to arm and defend ourselves not just from criminals but from tyrannical governments and invaders. I just want responsible ownership and there's so many dumbasses out there letting their small kids get access to their guns or just doing dumb shit in general it's scary AF. I can't speak for other liberal gun owners because honestly, I don't know many. I didn't vote for Murphy because he's going to tax us out the ass to pay for BS. I think part of wanting some gun control is me just not giving up hope that maybe there's something we are missing that we could do to stifle criminals' access to guns while not affect law abiding citizens.

The Constitution IS a living document to be changed as needed to protect people's rights. That's why we have the Constitution instead of the Articles of Confederation. Because the latter couldn't be changed. No, you definitely don't need to be a member of the NRA to respect the 2nd Amendment. That's a silly sentiment.

Don't need a NRA membership to enjoy shooting guns.

I don't blame the NRA for all that happens. I'm just not a huge fan. I'm down with gun control if it's sensible (background checks and such. Mag limits are ridiculous) but the NRA opposes any and all gun control which is what I have an issue with. Don't forget the extra Vitamin D being outside! I'll think about it. Possibly when things warm up.

I kinda had that attitude at first. "Oh, I don't plan on getting many." I've heard quite a few people new to guns say it. Now if I had my way, I'd have: M&P 15-22 S&W P22 Ruger American Ranch 5.56 Desert Eagle .50 Some AR in 5.56 An AK in 7.62 A 9mm handgun A .45 handgun 3 down...

I'd love to. But the Atlantic County range only goes to 100 yards. Shooters only goes to 150 yards. South Jersey Shooting Club and Cumberland County Riflemen both require NRA membership, plus CCR aren't accepting new members. Range 14 is probably the closest and that's over an hour away. PITA for a regular spot.

Bumping for updates. Been shooting a lot at Range 129, trying different things to see what's most comfortable shooting prone, what's most stable, breathing. Been shooting Wolf Gold 55gr and today finally cracked open a box of American Eagle 62gr boat-tail. With my hand under the butt of my rifle, I kept pushing the butt up and left when I shot. Range officer showed me another position where I have my off-hand on top of the butt. Just kind of keeping it in place, not putting downward force on it. I like this new ammo and I like this technique. 4 shot groupings. The middle target is 0.70" at 100 yards. Not including the flyer on the bottom left, the group of three is 0.68". Bottom right target was quick firing. I finally got a sub-MOA grouping at 100 yards!

I love my M&P 15-22. So much fun and when ammo is so absurdly cheap, I don't feel bad blowing through tons of it. I think a lot of it comes down to what you want to do with it. Freaking ammo can cost a ton over time and I'm only buying .22lr, 9mm, and .223. It only gets worse from there.
