One of the great things about CT is that with the same firearms permit, one can conceal OR open carry, no questions asked! AND, no need to apply for a permit, wait months on end, to get it, then go and buy a handgun. CT, you walk in, walk out, same day. Only reason is some CT FFLs were tell me that they either can't or won't, accept non-compliant firearms, + they were saying the wait for transfers is extremely long...think I found one though, so hopefully it works out. Hello. I have my NJ FID as well as several pistols. I'm most likely moving to CT, so wondering what the process is for obtaining a CT FID (or equivalent). I've looked and see that there are both "local" and "state" permits that are necessary. Wondering if anyone knows exactly what the process is for getting my license and then do i need to register my firearms? thanks in advance

Interesting...So im clear. If i bought a BB gun in say, Illinois or California when i lived there, and brought them back here to NJ (i have an FID card here), these BB guns (1 pistol 1 rifle), are now LEGAL and i do not need to get a permit to register them? I'm "legit"?

Highly recommend any purchase online. NO sales tax, and shipping is minimal or FREE. much better deals than any retailer in NJ.

Just so im clear on the procedure... I start here, https://njsp.org/firearms and fill out for P2P. It then goes to my local PD? (I don't need to do anything, like go in and fill out more forms and pay?) When it's approved, its an e-permit, so again, no need to go into the local PD to pick up? If i buy a gun and have it shipped to an FFL, the e-permit is there for them to look up? If so, that sounds pretty good...

Wondering what the legal procedure is for transferring these to NY/CONN and what i need to do for the equal permit as well. TIA

So here's a question on that. Before I had my FID, I bought a BB rifle on eBay. I probably need to register that? if so, how do I do that? I've since acquired a BB pistol as well, so prob need to register that as well—I've heard I need to apply for the same permits as purchasing an actual firearm, correct? I also have an AirSoft, which shoots plastic BBs. NO need to register this one? thanks

I think you still cannot shoot them anywhere except a gun range, correct? Not in your backyard, not in a forest preserve, etc. (Basically Unlike pretty much every other state in this country).

Really? I never knew this. How do "they" know? I mean every time I've bought something online from an out-of-state website (as long as they don't have a presence in NJ), I've never paid sales tax nor a "use tax".

I've only ever bought online. Most places offer either FREE shipping, or a i fixed price which is also pretty cheap. You won't pay any tax either, so that's a big savings. My FFL in Union NJ charges $35 for the transfer, so it's a great way to go. Good luck!

I still cannot believe that this state requires a permit, to purchase and own a BB gun...And, from what I've heard, the only place you can legally shoot them, is at a gun range!? I bought one years ago from someone on Ebay. They sent it to my home in NJ, no questions asked. I guess at some point i should probably apply for a permit and register it...*Sigh*

I guess you're probably correct. I"m having a hard time understanding the rules for this category. Seems silly all the stipulations that can/cannot be, in order to make these types legal.

I It's all silly! I'm still waiting (after 3 weeks), for my purchase permit to be extended by my local PD. Can't even get a reply from them. My guess, is that they're doing yet another background check...

What they told me was that even after NJSP do their background check, Maplewood will conduct their own. The process seems a bit redundant and also very inconsistent from town-to-town

My local PD took almost 2 months, AFTER the NJSP already approved me.
