  1. Anyone knows of a reliable gun smith or armorer that can swap a barrel on a S&W 686+ revolver? If you used them even better. Any idea on the cost to do the work? Obviously someone local in NJ as the first choice. Thanks for any leads.
  2. Tomorrow I am having my 18" barrel Tavor pinned/welded with a muzzle brake. The barrel is threaded and it has an inoperable bayonet lug (wings shaved off). After replacing the flash hider with a muzzle brake, and pinning/welding it onto the threaded barrel, will it finally be gtg according to the state of NJ? Thanks for everyone's help on this. Greatly appreciated.
  3. Hi everyone. This is my first post and within the year purchased my first gun. I apologize if this is addressed somewhere but I can't seem to find direction or recent posts. I seem to be having issues finding a reasonably priced upper receiver without an A2 flash hider. Then I started looking for a barrel with compensator without much luck. How does everyone purchase them? If I were to purchase a threaded barrel and compensator with existing guns, how do I not run afoul the many laws of NJ prior to pinning/silver solder it. My assumption is you ship it to a gunsmith to affix. Any advice would be appreciated. I think I am missing something the forest for the trees here.
  4. Hoping to get some guidance. (Did already search the forums.). Have owned a 22LR rifle and pistol for many years. After cleaning the firearms, the inside of the barrels always looked very clean and shiny/spotless. Recently purchased a Mossberg 590(#50668); my first shotgun The first time I shot it (25 rounds), I cleaned the barrel with Hopp's solvent, using bristle brush, patches, etc and finished with a light coat of oil. As above, barrel ended up looking clean and smooth in the inside. Went shooting last weekend and shot 82 rounds at the range(variety of 00Buck and slugs). Tried to clean the gun today and seem to be having a lot more trouble getting the inside of the barrel to be spotless. In various places, I am not sure if what I see is normal abrasion or I just have not been aggressive enough running solvent and bristle brush through it. So my question is, what is to be expected? Should bore always look smooth/shiny after cleaning? I.e. should I have been even more aggressive(ie more solvent, more brushing, etc.) OR is it normal for what looks like abrasion to appear due to wear from the shot, slugs, etc? Again, a newbie at shottys, so appreciate any guidance.
  5. The legality of threaded barrels in semi-auto pistols is regulated by the Guidelines Regarding the "Substantially Identical" Provision in the State's Assault Firearms Laws: http://www.state.nj.us/lps/dcj/agguide/assltf.htm A threaded barrel is one (#2) of the five named "evil" features, and the presence of any two of those would make a pistol into an "assault weapon" (i.e., illegal) in NJ. In the case of Glocks, the main issue is the "evil" feature #5; whether a pistol is "a semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm". Since Glock 18 is a select-fire machine pistol, there is an opinion that Glock 17 is "a semi-automatic version of" Glock 18, and therefore a Glock 17 with a threaded barrel would be illegal in NJ. For example, PK90 seems to be adhering to this position: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/29933-threaded-barrel/#entry394581 On the other hand, the NJ Gun Law Summary by vladtepes: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/blog/1/entry-16-nj-gun-law-summary/ specifically states that: "A glock (which is a semi automatic pistol that has a detachable magazine ) with a threaded barrel. LEGAL" I would like to know if there has been any consensus opinion reached on this issue. This issue is complicated by the semi-mysterious existence of Glock 18: neither the US nor the EU sites of Glock have any mentioning of Glock 18. I suppose it does not imply that Glock 18 is legally non-existent in NJ. I cannot find any official technical information on Glock 18. Every available Internet source states that Glock 18 and Glock 17 are actually incompatible: http://www.cybershooters.org/dgca/prod01.htm One cannot put a Glock 18 slide on a Glock 17 frame. This seems to invalidate the claim that Glock 17 is "a semi-automatic version of" Glock 18. However, until this position is confirmed by the NJSP, I suppose one would still take a risk by using a threaded barrel in Glock 17. Another murky issue is the use of threaded barrels in, say, Glock 22. To the best of my knowledge, Glock has never made anything in .40S&W with a full auto capability. This seems to provide very strong support to the position that Glock 22 is NOT "a semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm", and therefore threaded barrels should be perfectly legal in Glock 22. However, there exist various full auto conversions (illegal in the US!) for Glock 22, or any other Glock for that matter, see, e.g. http://www.defensereview.com/select-firefull-auto-glock-22-40-sw-machine-pistol-at-the-range-sts-arms-select-fire-backplatebackplate-fire-selector-switch-for-glock-pistols-video/ and http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2011/03/04/how-to-make-your-glock-fully-automatic/ I wonder if that would put at risk the use of a threaded barrel in any Glock in NJ. Of course, in my view, such a position should have no legal standing, since with sufficient ingenuity, almost any semi-automatic pistol can be converted to full auto. Any informed opinion on this issue would be highly appreciated. is there a way to get a definitive answer to these questions?
  6. I'm currently looking at this barrel http://www.stagarms.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_40&products_id=329 Since I don't want the front sight post, and would prefer a low-profile alternative, I was looking at this gasblock. http://www.stagarms.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_37&products_id=335 I was just wondering if they were compatible. The gasblock says it fits .750 diameter barrels, but I didn't see where the diameter was mentioned on the barrel up there. I'd like to get these, but I don't want to buy two parts that aren't compatible with one another. Therefore, I ask for your assistance. I emailed Stag a little over a week ago, but haven't heard back. I figure someone here would know better than I. Also, seeing as how the barrel is threaded, though there is no comp attached, is it legal to ship to my home? When I get PK90 to do the work for me, I'm going to get some sort of brake attached. Also, ordering just the barrel in this manner, are there any other parts I need to attach it to the A3 upper? I don't plan on doing that myself, but I know I need to bring them to PK90 for assembly. Thanks, as always, for the help!
  7. I put between 1000 and 1200 rounds through my Glock 34. Cleaned it after the first 200 and then around 700. I used 26 cleaning patches, each one 4 times and I was still getting fouling on the patches. I would run a clean brush down the barrel after every 5 patches (cleaned with gunscrubber so it wasn't re-depositing any fouling). I finally gave up and called it a day by running the last 3 dry. If I would have wet the last patches I guarantee they would have looked dirty....they only started to look good since they were dry. Is this normal or is there a better way to clean the barrel? I used Break Free Bore Cleaner at first and there wasn't any copper fouling. The rest of the cleaning was with Gunzilla and CLP. The bottom right patch was the last one.
