  1. Can anyone tell me if this Ruger American Magpul Hunter Bolt Action Rifle is Legal in NJ? Im not sure about the muzzle. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1029983884#carousel-modal-view-item
  2. I was looking for a rail upgrade for my Mini 30 and found this product which in my opinion makes it look so tacticool and actually allows me to eventually mount a red dot on my rifle! Samson makes it for both variants. (models 2007 and older or the 2008 and newer) They also offer in black and natural gray is what i opted for. I love the way the wood and the gray works so well. It matches the original hardware quite well as you can see in the pics. The link below includes the vortex red dot but you can also get it without the red dot which was what i opted for. Comes with a QD mount and additional 2" pic rail. https://www.samson-mfg.com/hannibal-rail-and-vortex-red-dot-package.html
  3. For sale is a Ruger Mini-14 model 05801 in almost new condition. About 500rds through it. Includes all original packaging, 2 x Ruger 5rd magazines, 2 x Ruger 10rd magazines, original scope rings, mounting rail, lock and owners manuals. Located close to Ramsey Outdoor and Yankee Armorer in Mahwah but willing to drive up to 50 miles to meet at your FFL. Asking $700 First person to reply with "I'll take it" wins the sale.
  4. Looking to sell this new-like Hogue OM Series Soft Rubber OverMolded Rifle Stock for a standard Ruger 10-22. I'm willing to meet within 10-15 miles of Gloucester City, zipcode 08030. I'm asking $50. The 1st "I'll take it" will get the sale.
  5. As pictured, slip on muzzle device. Flash suppressor? Muzzle brake? The vents do not go 360, no vent on the bottom. Not sure how to qualify it but with the full size opening I'd venture flash suppressor. Slip on and then pinned with a roll pin and an allen screw on the bottom. I had an older model stainless mini (180 series I think), used it on that, don't know about fitment on current models. $50 shipped priority mail CONUS. Location Delaware The first to post "I'll take it" establishes the buyer, PM after that. *********************************
  6. Ruger just announced the brand new Ruger 57 pistol. There were a few rumors but it is here. Totally impressed that Ruger did this... totally did not expect it. I just got the gun a few weeks ago and enjoyed every moment! Looking forward to getting a few thousand rounds downrange. https://youtu.be/BlNlqkpsJt8 I also covered yesterday's announcement of the Ruger LCP II in 22 LR...
  7. Quite a bit in the making but yay! Join on YouTube at 9pm ET.
  8. So after discovering that I can search the Ruger site by caliber... I found this guy... the American Ranch in 7.62x39. So besides that it is cheap... wondering... why? I suppose for hunting and cheap ammo? In any case... lol. yes. I will be requesting one to test when I am done with the current batch.
  9. Finally had the chance to spend a good amount of time with the gun. At this price point, there is no reason not to get one!
  10. When I first got into shooting in the mid 2000s, I quickly became interested in long range shooting. At that time, the standard recommendation for most shooters was to pick up a Remington 700 Police or a 700 VS and if your budget does not allow that, a Savage model 10FP, both in 308 Winchester. Generally, both of these guns would allow you to shoot around 1 MOA or better with match grade ammunition. In either case however, you were recommended to get into reloading if you wanted to get as consistent results as possible. Once you get above these hunting turned target guns, you were looking at very high end offerings such as the Accuracy International chassis systems or essentially custom guns by well known rifle builders such as GA Precision. Unfortunately, as great as these high end platforms are, they are out of reach for most gun owners. Fast forward a decade and today we find a massive rise in popularity of both long range and extended long range shooting. Most impressive is that you can find plenty of videos of gun owners shooting milk jugs from 1,000 yards to over a mile away with stock guns! So what's changed? I believe there are a number of key drivers which gun owners have to thank for the plethora of options available to them at price points of $2,000 and less. These drivers are both growing demand AND the availability/supply of firearms. From the demand perspective, I think we can thank two drivers for this, YouTube and gun games such as 3 Gun and the practical shooting inspired PRS, which is if you can imagine, an IDPA or USPSA match however you are moving and shooting with a precision rifle, shooting at targets at out at 1,000 yards or more! Fortunately, with all of this demand, manufacturers decided to pour in resources and we now have numerous products at the very competitive price point of $2,000 or less. Best of all, these guns are generally created to be accurate first, rather than being a firearm designed for hunting remarketed as a precision gun. Today, gun owners have such firearms as the Ruger Precision Rifle, the Thompson Center LRR, the Howa Oryx, Mossberg MVP and Savage 110 which use the latest manufacturing processes to produce factory rifles capable of sub MOA shooting (1" at 100 yards, 2" at 200 yards, etc.) The overriding theme here however is that I don't believe this would not have happened if it was not for the "Trump Slump." During the Obama years, manufacturers were able to sell basic $500 AR-15s for $1,000 or more. It was only after President Trump was elected and the fear of imminent gun control no longer drove sales, did manufacturers truly innovate and create such firearms at these very affordable prices. This is of course not just anecdotal evidence but can be seen in the sales data. For anyone who has been reading my "NICS Data" research on Seeking Alpha knows that long gun sales are at decade lows. At the same time, PRS and extended long range shooting is quickly growing. The main benefactor here being "chassis guns." The other major change enabling the success in long range shooting is the mass market appeal of new cartridges such as 6.5 Creedmoor. Why? In the simplest terms, the newer calibers such as 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 300 PRC, 6mm Creedmoor, and 224 Valkyrie were designed with different SAAMI specs, predominantly around a bullet with a higher BC (ballistic coefficient) in a larger cartridge with more powder. In short, better bullet, bigger cartridge, more powder giving you faster velocity and a bullet that is far more tolerant of wind. Yes, it is time to settle the debate... 6.5 Creedmoor is an all around better cartridge than 308 Winchester and is quickly becoming the go to norm for gun owners entering this category. After more than 10 years we can start admitting, it is likely not going away, especially as with stock factory ammunition, a shooter can effectively increase their range from around 1,000 yards out to 1,400. Bottom line, are these guns somehow going to put custom rifle builders out of business? No... because there is always that crowd of people who will be looking at a gun that can shoot 1/4 MOA and is willing to pay $4,000 or more on the rifle. If you are happy with .5 to 1 MOA with a gun that you can purchase for around $1,000 and don't need to reload for, then this is certainly an exciting time to be a gun owner. If you have not done so yet, do subscribe and follow my Precision Rifle series on YouTube where we take a look at the latest and most popular precision guns at $2,000 or less!
  11. Some of you were aware or may have caught my post discussing some long range guns. Early last week I had the pleasure of being flown out to the middle of nowhere in Texas, to the FTW Ranch, to shoot some upcoming rifles in a joint event with Ruger, Leupold and Hornady. Most of the guns I have shot are not yet released and cannot talk about them, but one of them, I can. It is the Ruger Hawkeye Long Range Target in 6.5 PRC. The gun was released at Shot Show, earlier this year and is now available in 300 Win Mag, 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 PRC. The event was really a 3 day shooting class where we used the new firearms. They were brand new, and in a few cases prototypes. They were production guns, not messed with and were straight out of the boxes. We shot the guns at ranges from 250 to 2,300 yards with Hornady match ammo. The optics were Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25 scopes. Working on the full video but here is a teaser of me shooting it at 1,200 and 1,400 yards. 1st shot hit on 1,200, took 2 on 1,400. Unfortunately did not hit at 1,600 as the round was no longer supersonic and the winds were hell. I was just blown away personally, that a gun with a $1,279 MSRP and a $1,000 or so street price was good enough to maintain sub MOA at those distances.

  16. Was wondering if this stock is legal in NJ. I visited the branchburg Heritage Guild looking for a 10/22 to mod and was informed they basically stopped selling 10/22 AR style stocks and was threaten with getting their license pulled because of them. I wonder if this stock would apply also. http://www.hightowerarmory.com/default.asp It seems it would only check 1 of the evils for "maybe" having a pistol style grip or the plastic shroud over the barrel might be another. Thoughts?
  17. Okay, I'm getting pumped for Black Friday and figured I could use some help from the community on setting my expectations for the kinds of deals I'm likely to see. Here's a list of stuff I'm in the market for... would appreciate some feedback on what stores I should be looking at and what kind of pricing to look for for each item. 1. a basic Ruger 10/22 (to teach the kiddos) 2. a fire-rated 10-24 gun size safe 3. a Walther PPQ M2 5" in 9mm (hard to find in stock lately) 4. a Mossberg 590A1 shotgun (missed the recent deal at PSA)
  18. Yesterday the stars aligned and I finally got a 10/22. A couple things had to happen for it to go down the way it did. I've been debating getting one for quite a while, but it was fighting a couple other guns for which one would be bought next. So... yesterday, while chatting with my buddy who was also contemplating buying one, I decided if I wanted one... it had to be the 10/22 Tactical (model 1230). So, for laughs, I started calling around to see if anyone had one or if I needed to order or find it another way. Meltzers, no go. Couple carbines and takedowns and that's it. Woodland Park... close, but still no. (They had a 10/22 Stainless target, which my buddy ended up snapping up yesterday, but no Tactical.) RTSP... "Sure. We have one in stock." Hearing that, I texted my girlfriend... fully expecting her to tell me that I had to wait (wait for her to come with me, wait for christmas, wait for my birthday or wait till H-E-L-L freezes over... or something.)... and much to my amazement, she told me to go buy it! So... off to RTSP I went. (Which was nice anyway, I hadn't been since the reopening.) Got it home, read the manual, disassembled it, did my usual familiarization stuff... and then I went looking for a scope. Couldn't break the bank, but I needed something (no fixed sights on this model). Did some googling... SWFA has the BSA Sweet 22 3x-9x for $40! (I'm not really sure why... because Midway and Amazon have the exact same scope listed for $99, but for that price... even if it is junk... I'll put it on my pellet gun..) So that's on it's way now... should be here soon (FedEx says Wednesday.). Initial impressions: I like the Hogue Overmould stock. I really like the look and heft of the 16" bull barrel. (My girlfriend remarked that it looked like a shotgun with the heavy barrel profile.) It's about 7lbs... heavier than the carbine model, but it also feel much more substantial. The included bipod (Shooter's Ridge Rock Mount 6"-9") is ok. Nothing fancy, but it should work just fine. So far, the extra initial expense seems comparable to buying a standard carbine and swapping the stock and barrel and everything else so only time and rounds down range will tell. Can't wait to get it out to the range! After shooting I'll expand on my impressions. (Quick crappy cell phone pic for now.)
  19. Been trying to start a poll. I don't think I'm doing it right. but I'm wondering the exact question of the title. Which 45 acp would you choose? Because I don't know which to get anymore. 20. Hello everyone, I've been on this site for months now and I'm interested in buying the new Ruger 10/22 takedown with the threaded barrel and flashhider to add to my collection. So my question is, is this rifle legal to own in the state of New Jersey? I understand that it only has 10 round magazines. No pistol grip is on this firearm. And so I feel that this rifle is legal, but I would like a group opinion. http://www.impactguns.com/ruger-1022-takedown-22lr-threaded-barrel-and-flash-hider-10-rnd-mag-11112-736676111121.aspx http://www.ruger.com/products/1022Takedown/specSheets/11112.html Respectfully, Plasma133
  21. Hello guys, I have an older model 183 series in stainless steel it came with a really short barrel with a pretty long muzzle brake welded on there ( it pushes 16.2 inches) I haven't seen this kinda brake before but it's really clunky and super front heavy. and I'm not a huge fan of it to be honest, the previous owner must have had the barrel chopped and ditched the front sight because the rifle came with a scope mount but no irons, which sucks. it came with a redfield 4x scope. so My plans, if they are even feasible are the following: Hogue overmold stock ( I like the semi pistol grip stocks better, aesthetically more pleasing) replace the handguard with an amega or ultiMAK scout scope rail and get some LER scope or maybe a low magnification pistol scope. ( this one is obviously possible) buy one of those accu struts or mo rod barrel stabilizers ( does anyone have personal experience with them?) swap out the barrel for a proper 16 or 18 inch barrel ( here's where it gets tricky, I've heard the older model pencil barrels didn't do much for accuracy for the mini-14, So I'm wondering if it's possible to put a later model 580 series barrel on the action and get a new gas block that will fit said barrel) if it's possible could someone recommend a competent gunsmith who can do this job locally? If I can't get a newer barrel and gasblock, does anyone know where I can go to do a barrel swap? I can easily get an older 183 series barrel so that wouldn't be an issue. does anyone know where a guy can get pinned or other wise permanently modified 15/20 or 15/30 round mags in NJ? or If i can get magazines out of state to be shipped to someone who can pin them? screen capture windows this is what it looks like now which I really don't like
  22. Hey guys, wondering if anybody who has a set of Altamont grips could chime in. I've been looking to purchase a set of the old style lett grips for my GP100, and I noticed that Altamont makes their own set. Is their set identical to the factory Lett grips? If I were to get a set of grip inserts that were made for the factory Lett grips, would they fit in the Altamont grips? Thanks.
  23. Up for sale is a Ruger Mark III, 22/45 with the heavy 5.5 " Barrel. It is allocated as per all of my distributors and tough to find. $375.00 "Out the door". Available for viewing at Mastodon. No photo available at this time, but as stated it is NIB. Blued with Black 1911 style grips. Shop: 973-764-9550 Cell: 201-206-6430
  24. Hey guys, So I purchased this little gun in order to be able to get more range time without breaking the bank. Unfortunately, things just didn't work out that way as I still just go the range about the same as before. I really have lost interest in shooting 22lr and I am looking to make some room in my safe for a new toy. This little revolver is a 8-shot 22 lr with fiber optic sights, I have a wolfe springs kit for it as well that ill include (I put the stock springs back in however). Asking $450.00 and the gun is practically brand new as I've shot less then 1000 rounds through it. Kevin * Edit * Just so that everyone knows, this gun has been shipped back to Ruger in the past because spots were appearing on the stainless that I concerned might have been rust. Ruger, (who has awesome customer service btw) had the gun back to me about a week later (6/5) completely refinished and all components replaced (Cylinder, Pawl, Trigger plunger, Firing pin Assy, Hammer strut Assy, & rear sight base).
  25. alot of shooters say it's too bulky, thick, heavy and ugly. i think it's perfect ! haven't shot it yet - going to the range on tuesday - can't wait ....
