  1. I looked around the forum and did a search but couldn't find this topic answered. Am I allowed to keep loaded mags in the safe next to my pistol if they aren't loaded into the gun? My assumption is that since keeping a loaded gun in a safe is legal, then this shouldn't be an issue either but I'd just like to verify. No children live in the house, although my niece and nephew visit every now and then. Thanks
  2. Thinking about getting a new stock for my Bushy CAR-15. Personally, I'm a nut for stuff with little hidden compartments and gizmos... That being said, I've been leaning toward the Command Arms Accessories 6 position stock with CR123A battery storage compartment, so I can have backups for my Surefire light. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/37160 Anyone have any experience with this product? Good/bad?
  3. I know some folks prefer the metal cans, but for some uses these are great boxes. This is the lowest price I've seen them for and if you have Amazon Prime it's free shipping. Now is the time - Amazon starts charging NJ residents tax on July 1! MTM Forest Green 50 Caliber Ammo Storage Can EDIT: The price on these fluctuates wildly. I keep them in my cart "Saved For Later" and can see the price changes whenever I log in. $13.10 is the lowest I've seen. FYI - These are much more solid than the Cabelas plastic ammo cans sold in the store for $8 - $9.
  4. I am leaving the country for work for an extended period of time. I will likely be back to the area every 6-12 months over the next few years. I own an O/U and three handguns. My unlce who is very trustworthy, lives in a very safe area, and a gunowner himself has offered to keep my firearms in his secure gun safe. **In regards to the pistols: what is the best way to store them to prevent damage, rust, etc????! I am not a long time owner and have tried to do research on this online, however, I trust this forum for the best answer to my question more than random articles online. I am storing a Kimber Custom 1911 (which I know can rust if neglected), a stainless Ruger Vaquero, and a G19. The O/U is a CZ Canvasback 12ga. Not so worried about the G19 or the 12ga, however the Kimber and Ruger are my babies and I want them in good shape when I'm back. Thanks for your suggestions!! Much appreciated.
  5. Thought this was a pretty good deal... Since I seem to have all my rifle and handgun ammo in ammo cans and my sg ammo elsewhere, seems to be worthy storage. Holds 100 rounds. http://www.amazon.co...ils_o00_s00_i01
  6. Hey all, I've owned only handguns up until now. I have a small safe I use to store my handguns. It could be carried away, but it is small enough where I hide it inside a larger storage box filled with books. Unless a bunch of burglars who are interested in Statistics and Economics break into my house when I am not home, I shouldn't have much of an issue. I am going to be, in the coming months, expanding my collection to an AR-15 and a Remington 870. I wanted to know if anyone had any good suggestions for storage. I would like it to meet some criteria: - Cost Efficient: No $1,500 monster safes. Maybe max, $500 or $600. - Transportable: Maybe something I can transport fairly easily? Not too easily, mind you...but nothing ridiculous that weighs a metric ton. If a friend and me could move one if I move out of my apartment, that would suffice. - Secure/Safe: Obviously, the point of locking the firearms up is to keep the secure and safe. Please let me one has any suggestions! Thanks!
  7. So I have just accepted an international assignment and will be moving out of the country for 2 years and I’m struggling to figure out what to do with the two hand guns I own. (I don’t currently have any plans to take them with me nor do I think I would be able to.) Currently my FID card has my apartment’s address that I will be moving out of. For anything I would need an US address for I plan to use my parents house which is also in NJ, but a different town. So I’m assuming that if I apply for a change of address to their house I could potentially just keep them locked up there. The challenge with this is I leave in little under 60 days so I’m worked about the paperwork being processed fast enough. The second issue is, I can obviously sign a lease with my parents if I need to, but would that count as my residence if I’m really living out of the country? I’ve also been wondering if it would just make sense to transfer ownership of them to a friend and transfer it back when I get home. I could potentially do this with someone who lives out of state, or with my parents who live in NJ and both have an FID card. I’m not opposed to just safely storing them somewhere without doing the paperwork, as I’m sure it won’t be a problem. However, I really would prefer not to have to worry about something stupid happening. So please let me know what you all think from the legal and practical aspect. Thanks.
  8. As a reference, please see ... ... ... ... ... ... if you are unfamiliar with the VTAC barricade. Most, if not all, of the classes I've attended (Telluric Group, Viking Tactics, Defoor and Redback One) use either the VTAC barricade or something quite similar in training drills. Once I've gotten my 2012 sea legs at Old Bridge, I'd like to use barricades during some practice sessions. Does anyone ever run these, or something similar there? Not sure what club policy is, but is there a way to store these on-site? I'd be more than happy to provide the material and labor to get a few built ... And maybe stash them somewhere for all to enjoy and practice with. These really are a great training aid. For those in the know, is this even possible? Thanks, Ronky
