  1. Hi Just joined... Moving back to NJ after 19 years in Kalifornia ( Morris County). It's hard to get a definitive answer here or on other forums that I've READ..so I thought I'd ask. Even the DOJ or NJ State Police are vague on their websites.. I have a 'sporting' rifle (MP15T) with the Bullet Button. I know if I keep the BB or replace it with a regular mag eject, I can only have 1 feature ( has adjustable stock, flash suppressor, pistol grip). I was originally going to add a Spike's Dynacomp (pin/weld) and a stock lock or similar, and keep the grip. Question 1...if I do a Ca compliant fix like the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter or other solution ( fixed Mag ), am I NJ compliant as well? Question 2: Moving...I'm aware I can ship firearms to myself as long as I put my name and 'In Care Of' on the boxes...any recommended service like FedEx or UPS that others have used without hassle? Ammo as well ( UPS will do with the ORD sticker...). It's not too gun friendly here either, any suggestions appreciated, less stress as possible. Has anyone tried 'SMG'..Ship My Guns? I believe can ship to an FFL if necessary or even transport on the flight back as long as its checked, but not a great time for some mishap or screw up.. But will the sport rifle be allowed checked baggage as well? Additionally, any movers that will transport the firearms? I will also check with the major rifle organizations, but would appreciate any advice ( not expecting legal advice) Moving mid may.. Thanks...shame I have to move back at such a bad time for the 2A...
  2. So I have this...um...friend...who is moving to a new town in 2 weeks and apparently he has misplaced his FID card. He thought is was in his safe, but alas, it is nowhere to be found. The question is, should he go to his current town PD and request a duplicate before moving, or just wait until he gets settled in the new town and then just request a new FID with his new address and go thru the entire process all over again? Can he go to the PD in his new town and say his FID got lost in the move. He has the FID number from his PPs, just cant find the damn card anywhere. Anyway, any info you can send my way...my...um friend will greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
  3. Hello all. I was hoping to get the opinion of the forum on my situation... I legally own several handguns in NJ. My job has forced me overseas temporarily. Due to NJ being a ridiculous state, my wife and I have decided that we are going to make our permanent residence in the US somewhere other than NJ (likely Vermont). Is there anything I must do in order to legally take my guns with me out of NJ? I know VT is pretty relaxed with their laws compared to NJ, but I wanted to get the opinion and advice from NJGF as it has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and tips since I bought my first handgun a couple years ago. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you very much!
  4. So, I was wondering how it works if you move to another part of the state temporary and take out a lease though your permanent address (drivers license and all) stays the same. Basic situation of a student moving to an off-campus apartment in a town within NJ. Questions: Would you HAVE to change over your FID? Can you keep your firearms in the newly-leased apartment though it is not the address slated on FID? Is there some kind of paperwork which must be filed with the local police department? Sorry if this has been brought up before. I searched the forum but could not find anything similar. Thank you in advance for the help.
  5. So I have just accepted an international assignment and will be moving out of the country for 2 years and I’m struggling to figure out what to do with the two hand guns I own. (I don’t currently have any plans to take them with me nor do I think I would be able to.) Currently my FID card has my apartment’s address that I will be moving out of. For anything I would need an US address for I plan to use my parents house which is also in NJ, but a different town. So I’m assuming that if I apply for a change of address to their house I could potentially just keep them locked up there. The challenge with this is I leave in little under 60 days so I’m worked about the paperwork being processed fast enough. The second issue is, I can obviously sign a lease with my parents if I need to, but would that count as my residence if I’m really living out of the country? I’ve also been wondering if it would just make sense to transfer ownership of them to a friend and transfer it back when I get home. I could potentially do this with someone who lives out of state, or with my parents who live in NJ and both have an FID card. I’m not opposed to just safely storing them somewhere without doing the paperwork, as I’m sure it won’t be a problem. However, I really would prefer not to have to worry about something stupid happening. So please let me know what you all think from the legal and practical aspect. Thanks.
