  1. Hey All, Newbie to this forum from Manalapan. Been shooting a few months with different guns at the range by renting. I am waiting for the Manalapan PD to let me know when I can pick up my ID, and permits which I have been approved for. I am thinking of buying 2 guns, one will be a glock 17 or 19, not sure of the other one I should buy. Plus I would need ammo, targets, etc Any suggestions on a decent 9mm gun, and what other accessories I need, and where to buy, online or at local shop would be appreciated.
  2. Hey all. The last time I bought handguns, the internet was in it's infancy. You learned about new handguns from magazines and catalogues and you had to shop around different dealers for stock or have them order something for out of stock items. Fast forward to 2016 and everything imaginable is available online, including in-stock inventory. I imagine a good part of any FFL's business is transfers. So let me ask you this - if I'm looking for a particular model that is not in stock locally, is there any advantage to having the shop order directly from the manufacturer vs. buying from a big online site and just doing a transfer? I checked with two LGS authorized dealers and was told they didn't have the gun in stock but could get the model I was looking for in a week or so, but would have to be paid in full at time of order. The online dealers have multiple quantities in stock, and obviously would require full payment before shipping to the FFL. Either way, I'm kinda buying sight-unseen, which is OK given the circumstances. So is it six-of-one, half-dozen of another? I would like to support the local guys as much as possible (I image they make more on a direct sale with markup than with a transfer). Just curious if there's any advantage one way or the other? Thanks.
  3. I am in the market for a second handgun and have never bought "online" before. I think I have the process down but if someone could set me straight I'd appreciate it. 1.So I find what I want at the price I want online (I know gunbroker is huge but are there any other good, reliable sites?) 2. I order it online, pay for the gun and shipping to a local FFL 3. I call the local FFL to let them know to expect a handgun coming to transfer to me 4. When it arrives I go to the FFL with ID and P2P in hand, pay the transfer price + NICS 5. Walk out the door with my new pistol Do I have the steps right? I would prefer to buy local and help out the "little guy" but cash is a little tight right now and the pistol I'm looking at is going for $500 online (plus $25 shipping) (plus $35 transfer and NICS) so I'm looking at $560 out the door buying online vs. $550 plus 7% sales tax plus $15 for NICS at a LGS so $603 out the door at the lowest local price I could find. If it was a $5 or even $20 difference I'd eat it and help the local guy but $43 is a lot. I suppose I am also helping a local guy by paying them the transfer fee.
  4. Hello, I am new to this forum board. Nice to meet you all folks. Anyways, a dear friend of mine bought an air rifle as a gift from an online retailer (Pyramyd Air, Amazon, etc; don't remember which one). From what I was told, it never used to work, but apparently, she said it works now and the air rifle is already on its way to her relative's house in NJ (the relatives and her are still residents of Vermont and will change residency soon). When she found out the absurd law of air rifles need FID card also, she called the online retailer numerous times to cancel the delivery and order. However, it's already on the way to relative's house. Her relatives has the option of "rejecting" the package and sending it back the same day unopened. Should her relatives just reject it or just keep it? They don't want any trouble in the future or anything, but would like for me to give them an opinion as they trust me. From what I understand, the retailer should not be able to allow orders to NJ for air rifles? Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing your opinions.
  5. I was just browsing a couple of ammo dealers online. In both places I saw "Will not ship to...New Jersey." Since when have mail order sales been illegal? Or are the dealers just afraid to do business with anyone in NJ?
