Will Birchwood Casey Lead Remover/Polishing cloth change the finish of a stainless revolver?

Recommended Posts

I've seen that these Birchwood Casey cloths work magic on removing carbon, lead and burn rings, but are they abrasive? I'm wondering it they will change the finish of a brushed stainless revolver if I use them to clean and polish it. I'd like to clean the gun up and make it pretty but don't want to polish the brushed finish out and end up with something too shiny.

I would suspect that anything that removes the rings is abrasive, even if only to a very slight degree. I have been using the Birchwood Casey cloths on the cylinder face of my brushed SS GP100 for more than a few years now and have noticed no change in the appearance. It does take a little elbow grease, and I don't clean them off every time I shoot it.

I collect and shave with old butterfly razors, to clean and polish I use MAAS precious metal polish, it will not remove any finish, it will clean and shine though. Squeeze a dollup on a soft tooth brush and go to town. Also use it on all my wife’s jewelry. Amazing stuff, and it leaves a protective coating.
