Nerdy power factor

Recommended Posts

So.  Only comp shooters may laugh at this.  Nerdy comp shooters.  On my way back from the range.  After chronoing my 9 and 38 reloads.  I called #sgttoadette.  A good friend of #pizzabob and mine.   We got talking about power factor

vel *bullet grain divided by 1k.

so we were talking and delved into power factors of other high level ammo.  Now just realize. Min power factor for 9mm in idpa is 125.  Icore is 120.  Sooo.  50 bmg with 660 gr head    Power factor is around 2100. Howitzers 155.  Power factor came out to something crazy.  Like 1.2 million power factor.  We figured the power factor comparable to a 50 bmg with a 660 gr head is equal to being hit by 17 9mm 115 gr Bullets at once.  :icon_eek:  yeah were nerdy.  But do the math yourselves if you’re bored.  I love this sport

all of my love goes to bob.  If it weren’t for him. This post would probably never been made.  :D:D

M198.  I just called them 155’s.  It says the projectile was around 100 lbs.  i don’t remember them being that heavy.  But might of been they were loaded with a 2 man caddy.  Shit now the pf is even more crazy.

Okay I drew on my personal knowledge and did a bit of research.

HE projectile is 95 lbs for all 155s.  MV varies depending on what model gun.

Using powder, not a rocket assisred projo, I came up with the following:

M114, MV 1850 fps, power factor 1,230,250,000

M198, MV 2240 fps, power factor 1,489,600,000

M109SP would depend what model.

M777, MV 2700 fps, power factor 1,795,500,000

I'd call any of those a one shot stop on a center mass hit.
