Bklynracer 1,263 Posted January 15, 2021 I know a lot more companies don't ship ammo to New Jersey. Stopped in Sportmanns in Charlesberg PA, had shotguns on shelf to buy, started talking to a salesman asked where I was from I sadly said NJ. He told me company policy is they no longer can sell to NJ residents. Am I just late or is this new, bought a shotgun at Cabalas in PA just before Christmas and all was good. Is this the future for NJ, Everyone stop selling to NJ residents?

Bklynracer 1,263 Posted January 15, 2021 I was more concerned that I wasn't allowed to purchase a long gun in person because I'm from NJ.
RUTGERS95 890 Posted January 15, 2021 its a problem and I believe violates purchase clauses under federal law. You are legally allowed to purchase so why the discrimination? what is the legal basis for it?

chencaerulescens 15 Posted January 15, 2021 Federal law requires that out of state purchases comply with your state's laws. Some sellers like Cabelas and some Dick's comply with NJ law by providing NJ state forms (usually electronically) and requirements. Some dealers can't be bothered or are afraid to be in non-compliance.
RUTGERS95 890 Posted January 15, 2021 but they cannot arbitrarily discriminate with legal interstate commerce that is regulated by federal law. the problem is, no one has sued them yet!!!!!!!

Federal law allows an FFL to refuse to sell a firearm to anyone for any reason. Suing the dealer will go nowhere. That said, if this store wants to have stupid policies, that's their loss. 1
