I get that all politicians are liars, but there are occasions where I'm kind of stunned when one of them is so brazen about their BS.
Case in point, Beto O'Rourke. He's most famous for failing to win any elected office of importance and for making himself the but of jokes on both sides of the political aisle, but he refuses to give up.
He's now running for Governor of Texas. You'd think his stance on gun confiscation would be a big barrier in a state like Texas, particularly when he was so definitive about it during the Presidential debates:
“Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”
Beto - 2019
Astonishingly, he seems to have a different stance now. Not nuanced, not slightly different...but a total reversal. When asked about his confiscation comments from 2019, Beto said:
“I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone. What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment”
Beto - 2022
Yup, he's now a 2nd Amendment champion????
I get that he’s a political zero, but how the fuck could he make such a drastic and abrupt turnaround and think ANYONE would buy it??
Hell, he even contradicts himself in the SAME breath when he (lies) says he wants to defend the 2nd Amendment, but lies and BASHES Abbot for passing permitless carry!!!
“I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone. What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment,” he said. “I want to make sure that we protect our fellow Texans far better than we’re doing right now. And that we listen to law enforcement, which Greg Abbott refused to do. He turned his back on them when he signed that permitless carry bill that endangers the lives of law enforcement in a state that’s seen more cops and sheriff’s deputies gunned down than in any other.”
Dude is a pathological liar…

I happened across this on Politifact.com as I was researching another topic. Politifact seems to be unbiased, but please let me know if anyone has info to the contrary.
The subject concerns a Providence City, Rhode Island council resolution claiming that semi-auto weapons were designed for military use. Another knee jerk biased resolution based on conjecture. Assuming of course that the information contained herein is accurate!
The subject heading of the article is this:
"Semi-automatic weapons, whether pistol or rifle, were designed for use by the military on the battlefield."
Providence City Council on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 in a council resolution
Here is the link:

I'm a firm believer that the inoculation of the 2nd amendment is only a prelude to a further erosion or complete abandonment of (whats left of) the Constitution.
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

This mindset baffles me. Shooting is a depreciating skill. If you don't practice, you will become worse at it. If you value your life enough to want to defend it, why would you rely on a skill that you don't practice? If the best I can do on a good day is scrape a pass on CCARE, I would be determined to get better at shooting - and yes I did see that you scored 98% - but your attitude appears to be that you shouldn't have to practice first. Trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, perhaps you mean that the government should not mandate that you have to meet any kind of standard before you can carry. I agree. There should not be any mandated quals. However, only a fool would be carrying a gun he can't use effectively. It does little to protect himself and creates a danger to everyone else because the misses will go on to hit something or someone after they miss the intended target.
