what part of FL did u move too?  I will have a better answer after 6/23 on if/when I leave.

We own two house in The Villages.   One is a house we rent, but we're currently residing there while we renovate the other one.  If you don't know what The Villages is, it's the world's largest retirement community.  35 miles top to bottom and about 12 miles wide.  All golf cart accessible.  There are at least 50 golf courses, neighborhood rec centers everywhere, pools, nightly entertainment, on and on.    A round trip on the cart from the top top to the bottom will run you most of a day and you pass through a ton of neighborhoods.    It's a neat place.

I also now own 3 golf carts.  One stays with the rental when it's rented and the others are for the wife and me.

I want to get a street legal one that can still run on the multi-modal paths.

Can't wait to get this house sold.  I hope we get a bidding war ;)

Good luck with your home sale!!

That rumor started from one comment by one fluzy who claimed it, then it got amplified in Rolling stone and then turned into legend and  now it's lore.  You can't understand how annoying it is that every time you mention TV, someone googles it, up comes the "It's an epicenter of STDs and black market for Viagra" nonsense.  No need for a black market in it, you can get Viagra online by a dozen different places like Roman, Blue Chew, for hims, etc.  The only reason I know those is they have at one point advertised on Cumia.  The only other comment I'll say about that is that in men over 50, half have some level of ED, the other half are lying about it.  I guess it goes to show how OLD that article is.

Then again, who cares.  It's a bunch of older folks.   Single men never have to cook again and can be perpetually drained if they choose to.  A little wrinkled and dry maybe, but what are ya gonna do.

Heh, I'm not bothered by it, my post did come across a bit harsh.  It's mostly when I tell people in person and the next words out of their mouth "Did you know, it's the STD capital of Florida".  Lol.

Their timeline is close to what I read, but there's also a Rolling stone article as well.

Fact or Myth: The Villages Is the STD Capital of the US?

Category: Health and Wellness Issues

February 5, 2021 — Any time the subject of The Villages (TV) in Central Florida comes up in conversation, the chances are that someone will chime in with the tidbit that the popular active community is the STD capital of the US. In many circles this bit of false news is taken as the gospel. Everyone chuckles and they move on.

The rampant STD rumor about The Villages first erupted in 2006 after a gynecologist who had moved to the area stated that she’d treated more cases of herpes and human papillomavirus in The Villages than when she practiced in Miami. She later modified her account, but the damage was done. The New York Post picked up the salacious report as did other media outlets across the country. Andrew Blechman’s Leisureville, which depicted Mr. Midnight’s late night adventures as a senior citizen Lothario, also helped to perpetuate the image of TV as Gomorrah in Central Florida.

Since then many people, especially those who live in and/or promote The Villages, have done their best to set the record straight. While as in any county one can find cases of STDs, The Villages is in no way a top place for sexually transmitted diseases. In fact, looking at statistics from the Florida Department of Health, it is at the bottom for cases per 100,000 residents. In 2019 the State’s overall rate of infection for gonorrhea was 175 per 100,000 population. In Sumter County, where 80% of the population is from The Villages, the infection rate is 39. That contrasts with Leon County, home to the capitol and Florida State U., where the rate is 370. Similarly for rates of chlamydia, the overall rate for Florida is 525.5 while Leon County’s is 1147 and Sumter’s 157.

I’m sure they say that about Sun City, Georgetown Tx too (also a 55 and older community). Lol

I was there for a week back in February.  After checking out the live music one night that they have every night at the Town Square, it seemed to me that it easier to get laid there then it was at the Fountain Casino in the 80’s.   Not that I took part in what looked to be the chosen Sport of the evening... it was sort of like being in a nightmare where all my friend’s Mom’s were trying to hook up with me.

So... probably not the STD mecca...but they do seem to play it fast and loose when the sun goes down and the bourbon is pouring.

And the music was pretty good by the way.  So was the craft beer bar.

Which square?  I've been around the squares a bit and haven't had the same experience with the gray cougars, but then a bomb might go off next to me and there's a good chance I wouldn't notice, lol.

There is a Sabbath band that makes the rounds and they are REALLY good!

I’m not sure what it was called but I think it was the original one with the elevated pavillion in the middle for the band.  Has what looks like a Spanish theme going on.  There’s a newer one that has a lot more retail store fronts.  That one is near a body of water. The one I was at has a radio station of some kind there.  Saw the sign for it next to the open area.

There were these two lovely drunk ladies who were probably about 60 or 65...so not all that old for the Villages.... they wanted to know if I wanted to take a ride through the trails in their golf cart. Claimed they weren’t sure where the trails were and could use a guide....   uh huh...

Prior to that me and my friend were joined at our table by a woman who apparently was celebrating her birthday.  And celebrating hard at that.  Eventually her not so drunk friends found her and led her away.  She seemed taken with my buddy.

Friendly bunch of people that night.  And this was all before 9:00.

The band was 80’/90s pop and disco. So not my favorite but they actually did some Prince really well.

As you wrote, its a neat place.  It took a couple of days for me to get my bearings but its big like you said.  And pretty much whatever kind of retail place you can think of....is there somewhere.  And its clean as hell.  I suppose there are some homes that aren’t kept up but I didn’t see any.  It looked pretty much like a 200 square mile resort.

You were at Spanish Springs.  It's about 1/4 mile from my first Villa.  A 5 minute cart ride.  We often run over for Ice cream.   Our second villa is directly between Sumter landing and Spanish Springs.  Sumter landing is the square against Lake Sumter.

I'm always with my wife and I don't drink, so I'm not running into the drunk floozy types :).

I hear about people having the occasional run-in with someone, but I've never seen any of it.  It's always smiles and friendly folks.

There really aren't any homes that aren't kept up.  There is sometimes one where the resident died with no next of kin and it goes fallow.  It takes a while for all the paperwork and such and often a neighbor will mow and do weeds.  It looks like Suburbia around 1950.  There are no punks, block parties, thump thump rap cruisers or any other nonsense.  There are sometime adult children who are drunk, drug addled fuck-ups who live with their parents.  They tend to make the paper when they get arrested for the 20th time.

Heck, you can't even park a 1ton truck on your property for more than 72 hours!  The covenants are pretty strict, but it's fine.  I'm not worried about leaving a junker in the front yard and I don't have to worry about the neighbor doing it either.  If that's your thing drive 10 minutes outside TV, there's as much red-neck, chain link fence, junk yard dog, abandoned car, no zoning as you can handle.

For me, it's nice to hop on the cart, drive to the rec center, swim, shoot pool, play pickle ball, or bocci or whatever.  After that we can cruise over to the square, listen to music, eat ice cream, get dinner and go home to our quiet neighborhood.

It's not for everyone, but it's a narrow band of people that it misses.   If you want your own shooting range and you like to weld on sand buggies in your 5 car garage, it's not for you.

Its definitely nice down there.  With the pair in the cart...I was clueless but my friend was laughing his ass off because I thought they wanted directions...  the two women were laughing as they drove off. They could have just been effing with me.  But the birthday girl was a train wreck we were a little concerned about.   Other than those two situations, it was pretty calm.  Nice wait staff where we were eating.  The beer place was pretty good.

My friends are on Arruda Terrace I think thats near Sumter Landing. I know the big food store was a quick ride over a bridge.  It think thats near Sumter.  Their other place was in a bit lower priced area on Escobar.  I only remember that bec ...Pablo....  We were clearing out that house for them so they could list it for sale.

It a nice lifestyle for sure.  Great social scene.  A lot of nice people.   I’m not quite ready for it though. Still have a lot of welding to do!

Ah, Arruda Terrace.   Villa complex just off of 466.  I pass there every time I go to Sumter.  It's about 5 minutes from the new house and a little more from the other place.  Escobar is kind of a barren area.  Needs more landscaping but still there is no real bad place down there.

I wish I had a place to wrench on a  car, but ah well, next life I guess.  I"ll settle for cart rides and no snow.

When I do get something 450HP or more, I'll just get a sticker "Bought, not built"

Looks like the wife started talking shit, as the Singh campaign was just rebutting points calmly.

As I have noted . . . The video was edited to remove King Penna's initial, vulgarity filled attack.  Penna isn't some Singh "staffer".  He's the campaign manager.  The two candidates had separate "green room" type facilities at the studio and Penna shouldn't have been in the same room.

So where is the unedited video you saw this vulgar attack?

It is kinda moot anyway. We can just remember this all when Jack gets steam rolled by the NJ legislature. Who wants to take bets he would sign a bloated state budget just to avoid a state shut down like christie...

Voted for him four times . . . Both Primaries and both general elections.  If he runs in 2024, I'll vote for him again.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?  I'm talking about winning in NJ where Trump didn't get close.  I would vote for the 37,357th name in the phone book before I let Murphy win.

I know people who were there.

People on the ciattarelli team?

I'm curious because it's pretty obvious who was being vulgar in the video, and it wasn't Penna.

So what?

Sooo... its pretty obvious ciattarelli wife and the campaign tried to play off her own vulgarity by blaming it on Penna. Some of the press releases went even further and were pretty deceitful if you watch the video.

Is this what we should expect from this guys campaign? Sounds like Christie 2.0

Becuase it sounds like you take offense to people that use " mean " language. I won't even talk about Trump himself, but Cory Lowendasky isn't exactly known for being a smooth talker, either. And you still claim you voted for him.

So which one is it? Do you object being represented by people that use mean language or not?

I certainly don't object to mean or vulgar language. That tape wouldn't prevent me from voting for Singh.

that's what's what.

I don't mind tough talk. Politics has morphed into street fight. Ifyou can't take bad words and real conflict stay on the sidelines. For all thay say civility should return, most of the people are hooked on reality TV and want to see a train wreck. As I have stated before I will vote for Jack but NJ really needs a revolutionary leadershiip change that is willing to go against the established norms (like Trump). Assuming Jack can win, which will be tough because he doesn't motivate anyone but the "machine" of the Republican party, NJ is still going to be a shit state.

I won't donate any $$ to him. He seems to have that lined up with the new GOP Chairman Hugin. Amazing the patronage that goes on.
