The Dune movie from the 80s is purposefully cheesy but very much a cult movie. It has its moments (including realizing that Patrick Stewart was bald back then). The mini-series on Sci-fi was ok accidentally cheesy but ok. The new one on HBO looks to be pretty good.

One of my favorite books and I love the movie. There is a directors cut version on YouTube that was re-edited. It’s really good as well:

It’s like the Foundation series, soooo.many.books. As a tangent: Really want to see a remake/sequel of The Last Starfighter.

Read it, do a top shelf book report on it and get a passing grade. Don't and I fail for the year and wouldn't have the grades to graduate! I did and graduated. Loved the book and went on to read the next 3-4 sequels but forgot more than I remember that was 45 yrs ago lol. There are many more Dune books and short stories carried on by Frank Herbert's son. Kevin125 4,772 Posted September 1, 2021 Lots of good choices. Thomas Crown Affair The Thing The Fly Westworld reboot....though a series. Better. The actors need to be ignored off screen though I feel like I’m forgetting some war movie remakes. Feel like there were a few good remakes. Have to do some digging. But I suppose if they were that good.... Would like to see a remake of The Deer Hunter. If there was one already, it must have sucked. Sorcerer (Roy Scheider 1977) remake of Wages of Fear (1953)

GRIZ 3,369 Posted September 1, 2021 I have to give him credit. When Jeff Bridges delivered the line in True Grit, "Fill your hand you son of a bitch", he was as good as John Wayne. A hard act to follow.

I enjoyed the original Bond novels, but if you changed the title, author, and a few character names, a reader would have trouble matching many of them to the movies that followed. Moonraker the book was about one missile that could hit London, and the missile silo was already in England, so not much of a stretch. Moonraker the movie had dozens of space shuttles, an enormous stealth space station, and a plot to eliminate all human life remaining on earth.

Pretty much followed the book.

Your youth may have something to do with your appreciation of the Bond books. I was referring to the fact I am quite certain you're much younger than me. Fleming wrote Bond from 1952-1964. We had the Cold War, the Red Menace, doing duck and cover drills, etc. The sex in Bond books can be found on network TV but was very risqué for its time. A lot of other things were much different that today or 30 or 40 years ago.

I'll throw in not a remake of a movie but of a TV show I enjoyed The Equalizer. They changed a few things and the 2nd one was a bit weak but Denzel Washington did a good job. I think he's one of the best actors ever. Never saw one of his movies where he didn't do a good job. I can't think of a single remake that is better including many mentioned in this thread but love Jeff Bridges and haven't seen this. I'll watch tonight or tomorrow and let you guys know. Good call on The Thing, The Fly, and True Grit. So - what about reimagining or reboots, specifically in comic book and sci-fi movies. The most recent “Star Trek” movies were damn good, but they were their own stories, not really remakes. The Henry Cavill “Man of Steel” was way better than Reeves’ “Superman”. Bale’s Batman movies are better than the Keaton/Clooney/Kilmer’s. Is a live action version of a previously animated movie considered a “remake” the “live-action/CGI” Jungle Book was good. * I waffle on this one. They are both really good. ok yes, Thomas Crown Affair and The Departed. 2 for sure have to say no to the rest
