Changed: Fedex Will Only Ship Firearms From FFLs

Recommended Posts

Fedex has changed their shipping policy. Page 126:

Service_Guide_2021.pdf (fedex.com)

"Firearms Only customers holding a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and federal, state, or local government agencies may ship firearms with FedEx. Customers holding an FFL must enter into an approved FedEx Firearms Shipping Compliance Agreement before shipping any firearms with FedEx. For more information, contact your FedEx account executive. On behalf of customers holding an FFL who enter into an approved FedEx Firearms Shipping Compliance Agreement and federal, state, or local government agencies, FedEx Express will transport and deliver firearms, antique firearms, and replica firearms, all as defined by the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, as well as muzzleloaders and black powder firearms (collectively “firearms”). Shipments containing firearms must be sent with the Adult Signature Required Delivery Signature Option. FedEx Express will transport ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Dangerous Goods section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as dangerous goods. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package"

FYI, I used UPS to ship a handgun to Ruger back in August. First off, Tinton Falls was the only location anywhere nearby that accepted "Dangerous Goods" as UPS called it. I then needed to call Ruger from UPS and have them email me a copy of their FFL. UPS had to see that I was shipping it to the same address on the FFL.

Ruger ended up sending it back to me via FedEx (long story there) and of course FedEx was a hassle to deal with getting it back. I wanted Ruger to send it UPS, because UPS would hold it at Tinton Falls for me since a signature was required. FedEx will not hold firearms for pickup. They won't hold powder either, I learned that the hard way too and paid extra to have the powder redirected to an address where someone could sign for it.

Wow.  So is UPS the only option left for a non-FFL to ship a handgun?
