Schumer Puts 1.5 Billion for ATF into Federal Budget

How much does the ATF  usually get per year?

If this request is over and above their annual budget, Schumer's wet dream would roughly double ATF funding.  Nothing good would come of that.

Their 2019 budget was about $1.27 billion  ( 2019 budget) and their 2021 budget request was for $1.67 billion--not sure what they actually got (2021 budget request).

Sure.... rule by federal mandate, instead of LAWS......  Is there still a Constitution in this country??

Is It Time Yet?

...."On Sunday, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) pushed for the federal government to allocate $1.5 billion to fund new gun control actions by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

The New York Post reported that Schumer wants to use the funds to get the ATF behind the Interstate Task Force on Illegal Guns. The task force is ubiquitously aimed at getting illegal guns off the streets of New York.

Schumer commented his desire to get the ATF involved in the task force, saying, “The ABCs of beating back the scourge of gun violence depends on three federal letters: A, T, and F.”

He added, “I am pushing for $1.5 billion dollars in federal funds for the agency, so they can help with this work and do much more at the national level … Without the $1.5 billion … these plans will not have their full impact, and we need full impact to address the flow of these crime guns in our communities and across our state.”

Also the ATF:  we have a searchable gun database (that we use to only search for crime guns)

There's a reason why the 4473 was revised, to get all the important information on the FIRST page:

...."AmmoLand News was first to report that the ATF was digitally scanning firearms transaction records, like your personal 4473.

What are they doing with the money we already give them?  They are using it to pay for the MULTIPLE PROSECUTIONS of the same'asshole criminals.  These punks think they are so tough...illegally carrying an illegal gun.  Why doesn't Shumer do something about the prosecutors and Judges that keep letting these lawbreakers with rap sheets a mile long back on the street.  Nothing will change until the deterrent is harsh enough.  Society should rid itself of these scum law breakers. They used to do it at high noon.

    • Before you tell me not to move to NJ, I know, it sucks. lol  I actually lived in Jersey most of my life and moved over to PA 5 years ago, and now I plan on coming back.  I bought my first firearms when I was a NJ resident, so I am pretty familiar with the laws, however I do have a couple questions... I have acquired a nice collection while living in PA and obviously want to make sure I follow the law when I come back.  I have a few AR's that I built myself.  As long as I pin the stock and replace the flash hider with a pinned/welded muzzle brake, I am good, right? Also, regarding the "Other/Non-NFA firearms", would it be the same deal?  I have a couple AR pistol style firearms that I built.  The stripped receivers were bought as "other" on the ATF form at the FFL.  So, if I ensure the barrel is at least 12.5" and there's a vertical foregrip, would I be good?   I appreciate any assistance.
    • Sorry, both are SPF.  Being picked up this week. Win M22  22 LR SPF to Ringwoodfrank.
    • Yup I see. Looks like right now you can only purchase the 2023-2024 permit still. I assume won't be able to purchase 24-25 season permit until July.
    • Just a heads-up for anyone who might also be in this situation. I joined USLS mid-April of 2022. Some time after renewing for 2023, I changed email providers, and dutifully reflected my new address on my account page. So, I have been anticipating renewal alerts at my new address, but those never arrived. I logged in to my account the other day, and was surprised to see that my subscription expired that same day. I went to my account main information page, confimed that my email address was correct, then went to the billing page, which showed my previous two payments, but which did not give me any apparent way to pay up for the new year. I requested support using the Customer Service form on the web site, but received no reply. Today I called their support number. Apparently changing the email address from my view of my account page did nothing to change the address that they use internally for billing purposes, including expiration notifications. Maybe they also use that address for replies to the support form, even if a different email address is entered there. Also, my account was set up to auto-renew and charge my credit card without my intervention, but that setting did not show on my account page in any obvious way. So, if you have USLS and have changed your email address since you last renewed, you might want to give them a call to ensure that they send renewal information to your correct address. The prospect of having legal coverage lapse while carrying in NJ was, for me, a less that confidence inspiring experience. I will note that the telephone-based customer service was excellent.
