Application to be denied. Should I try to withdraw it before it's official or go through with the appeal?

This is essentially what I am going to do, I also talked to Pisano.  I am working on getting all my records together and then go to Pirelli so I can get a evaluation that will stand up to everything and will help to expunge my mental records later on, which I will be hiring Pisano or whomever to help with that.

Thank you everyone for all the advise.

It would probably benefit others and be very useful if you could kindly keep us updated as to how things go.

I will try my best.  Pirelli said that he's booked until June so I take it my evaluation wouldn't be done until August or September, but I also have no idea how long these things take.  Then I can reapply for my fpic and handgun permits and also proceed with the expungement of my mental records.  If my first application is any idea of the length, it will take around 3 months for my police department to handle everything for it.  Also, I have no idea how long the expungement stuff will take as anything having to do with courts is completely outside my knowledge.  I will try and post everything as it is completed.  Although the pessimist in me is saying that I would be lucky if I can finish everything and get my expungement and fpic/handgun permits approved by the end of the year.

If by the end of the year, you mean THIS year, I would say that is a bit optimistic. Everything takes much longer than it should. I would look at the whole thing as a long term project, and think of yourself as playing the long game.
It will definitely be done by the end of some year, but probably not this one.

Perhaps my expungement timeline may help you. My began in January 2020 and was finally executed in September 2020. Then after serving all parties of the notice it’s always recommended to still allow some buffer. For them to officially adhere to the order. There is nothing in an expungement order that says when municipalities or state police have to execute the order. Now this was during the pandemic so maybe nine months was long and could be shorter but I think by end of year is best case scenario in your situation good luck

Get the record expunged! You don't need a gun lawyer to do that! If you get the expungement, it never happened!

I had a "problem" and had it expunged, but was denied a purchase permit because somehow the police knew of it! I went to the county court with a well known gun lawyer and the case the police were trying to use against me was thrown out!

I thought the mental health check only went back ten years. It would be ideal to not have a rejected application on record.

There is nothing in the application documentation that implies or states a limit on how far back the mental health record check goes. Seems like you are expected to reveal anything mental health related no matter how long ago it took place.

Having said that, just like with tax documents as an example, there are legal requirements for how long medical records are retained. In New Jersey that requirement is seven years for office visits, outpatient type stuff and ten years for hospital stays. That absolutely does not mean that a doctor's office might not keep your files longer than required but it does mean that a records check can't always find everything - even if somehow you were foolish enough to give them names and dates. (other than commitments which are recorded by the county they would have to know where to send a request for medical records meaning your HIPAA waiver is basically meaningless when they don't know who to show it to)

I’m in the process of applying for a gun permit and was told I need a letter from a doctor or pyschiatrist that holds a MD. Dr. Pirelli has been mentioned in other posts but won’t do because he doesn’t have a MD. Is there a doctor or psychiatrist that does this type of evaluation? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

      Hello,
I have two questions regarding FID application. So I have seen three psychiatrists for ADD, and while I know this is not a disqualifying factor, I do not know the exact dates or years that I attended, and mind you that I am currently 20 and attended from ages around 7 to 17 or 18. This is a problem because the application asks this, and then asks for the names and dates of such occurences. Is it okay if I state that I do not know the dates of such occurences, or if I give the date estimations of which (I do know the names)?
My second question is regarding references. I do not know any police officers well enough to be able to ask them to use them for my FID, so will two friends that I grew up with do just fine? Thank you.

Can anyone help me find the stats on how many people in NJ apply for CCLs, and how many of those applications get rejected?
I'm having an online argument on a military forum (I'm a retired Marine).  Some guy thinks concealed-carry-restrictive states such as New Jersey and California are not violating the 2nd Amendment since they have a process for getting a permit, my response is it is a de facto ban if the vast majority of permit applicants are denied, but it's hard to make that argument without stats to back it up.

So, we all know how tragic this past weekend has been for Newton, CT. I send my prayers out to all of the families affected by the massacre.

For us here in NJ however, do you think our local PD's will be using this as an opportunity to delay the FID and PP process even further??? Most townships here treat us as criminals and will wipe their butts clean with our FID/PP apps before they approve anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Here in Linden, one forum user is well past the 200-day mark. I just past the 30-day mark this past Saturday, and I'm afraid to even call and ask on my app's status. My references have yet to receive their letters. I can just imagine the disgruntled attitude I'll be given for wanting a gun during this time.

Only if I had disbanded my BS liberal socialist views when I turned 18, then I'd be swimming in firearms already... Times are tough.
