NJ Handgun Carry Permit Application Experience

That's ridiculous. They must have lost your application or something. I applied for non-resident permit at Totowa NJSP in mid August. Had the permit issued on the 19th as well, probably one of the same 20 ppl as your friend.

Contact [email protected] - that's the head unit at NJSP superintendent office that oversees CCW permitting for the state. They should have received your application after Totowa cleared you and should be able to tell you the status.

Thanks for the email tip, I have emailed them in November, prior to them changing the process. I re-emailed  them last week, hopefully this time they have my application and can offer me some info. They didn't lose my app, confirmed recently by the investigating trooper,  however it may have worked its way to the bottom of the pile after a followup call. I am always polite, in any case,  it's possible that over worked cops don't appreciate follow up calls.

Since I submitted before the changes after 60 days should I be contacting the chief to get an update?

That's up to you.  Too many variables to consider for me to offer advice.  Is the chief 2A friendly?  Is the town / local government 2A friendly?  Is there a Moms Demand Action person on the governing body?  And so on...

CM, you're saying the police have 90 days to approve/deny the carry app?  Is this in writing somewhere?  And what happens if they go over the 90 day limit?  thanks

And nothing happens, just like the fact that most PDs don't make or ignore the turn-around time for pistol permits.  Nobody is ever held accountable as "they" don't want you to own, let alone carry firearms.

The PD should have given you a case number when you submitted the application.  That is how applications are tracked along with everything else.

If they go over the 90 days they can go for 120 days total. In reality there’s no time limit as the state isn’t going to enforce anything.

This.  Use your brain.  Don't carry if you don't have the permission slip.

Once application is “complete” the Chief has 90 days to approve or deny the CCW.

Chief may extend 30 more days for good cause with written notification to the applicant.

Chief may take longer than the initial 120 days if necessary - that extension must be agreed upon by both the applicant and Chief.

Be nice if the US Supreme Court allowed individuals to sue States that improperly delay the gun licensing app.  I'm beginning to dislike liberals

If your paperwork did not get sent to the courts before the new laws, I believe you are subject to the new laws minus the TRO and the new fees.

Huh?

Like property owner rights...   It is private property and the owner has the right to not allow carry via signage.   The difference is this is a trespassing charge vs felony gun charge like carrying at a school for example.

Yeah, I don't think anyone here disagrees with that.

I think the gunslinger picture was posted tongue-in-cheek...

The problem I have with this is the state encouraging or even demanding that establishments ban carry. And that any ban doesn’t extend to retired law enforcement.

Any ban should be entirely voluntary and the state should have no say. Unfortunately I suspect they’ve been getting nudged by the administration.

Put up a sign you don't get my dime.

Absolutely.  Whether I'm currently carrying or not.  If you put up a sign and you aren't required, you are black listed. Not using your services again, and will recommend others to stay away.  ;)

You can bet your ass, that's exactly what occurred with the casinos. As for other businesses that post that kind of sign they should post one next to it that says "We welcome thugs to come in and rob us we have no other people in here with guns"

When the State said they were going to tell private citizens and businesses that they SHOULD put up signs, the judge was very quick and clear to correct them that they can only say they CAN put up signs.

Call those businesses out as you find them, and I'll add them to this list:  List of NJ Businesses Posting 'No Guns' Signs

Businesses that put up signs should also be on the hook for everyone's protection.  If you prevent me from protecting myself and my family and something happens, it all fall on you.
