Now this is what an American Legislator SHOULD look like!

Recommended Posts

So what has changed since then?  America is the most medicated country in the world.  Over 30% of the population has been prescribed anti-depressant drugs.  17% are currently on anti-depressants.  Many drugs today have suicidal and homicidal thoughts as side effects.  We have pharmaceutical reps who get paid big bucks for convincing doctors to prescribe more drugs.  Consumers are shown advertisement for drugs on TV that tell them to go ask their doctor to prescribe those drugs to them.  We used to have hospitals and facilities for the mentally ill.  Now we just have drugs for them.  By far the largest lobbying industry in America is big pharma, spending 2x more than the next biggest industry.  They want to hold gun manufactures and gun stores accountable, but they won't hold pharmaceutical or doctors accountable for over prescribing drugs with suicidal or homicidal thoughts as side effects. Too much money to be lost by big pharma and the politicians they support.

I have believed for a long time that overly prescribed drugs, when added to the increasing illegal drug use is the major cause for mental issues in the country. When expectant mothers are warned about drinking and drug use during pregnancy and their history of recreational drug use isn't factored in you get what you pay for so to speak. Combined with the liberal movement of "entitlement" is it any wonder society suffers?
