Maloney introduces legislation targeting firearm industry (yahoo.com)

"One of the pieces of legislation would make it illegal for a firearm importer or manufacturer to sell guns to a retailer or distributor known or suspected of engaging in practices that could pose a threat to the misuse or criminal use of a firearm.

The bill would also require databases to be created by the firearm importers and manufacturers to keep track of when their products are misused or used in crimes.

The second measure would impose a 20 percent tax on the total revenue for manufacturers or importers that sell semiautomatic assault weapons and would incorporate those funds toward a community violence intervention and prevention trust fund."

------

Databases.  Hear that, folks?  And taxes.  Remember this come November!!!

Oh I was just coming on to post this!

By this logic, alcohol and automobile manufacturers need to team up to track reckless and drunk driving.

At least their strategy of "let's do everything to bankrupt the firearms industry" is consistent.

That would be interesting.  Track which vehicle brand is used the most in drunk driving and vehicular homicides and fine that manufacturer an extra 20%.

Gun buybacks are popular. But are they effective? (yahoo.com)

"An effective buyback would have to be a national event, paired with federal gun safety legislation, similar to what Australia did in 1996, said Bradley Bartos, an assistant professor of government and public policy at the University of Arizona, who studied the impact of the Australian model in a 2019 paper in Prevention Science."

Everybody paying attention?

Sadly, the left heavily idolizes Australia for this.

The bill kind of sounds like a red flag law for gun manufacturers and importers.
