Interesting case that could lead to reciprocity...

Good guy with a gun is arrested in Baltimore after stopping a would-be shooter.  He says he's NOT going to accept a plea deal and will be fighting charges:

 

"After Marine veteran Lloyd Muldrow stopped an attack by an armed assailant at a Baltimore bar, police officers thanked him — and then they arrested him.

Now the Good Samaritan credited with saving a man’s life faces up to a year in prison, charged with violating a city ordinance that forbids bringing handguns within 100 feet of a public building, even though he neutralized the attack without drawing his pistol.

Mr. Muldrow, a North Carolina security specialist, holds a concealed weapons permit, but it was issued in Virginia, not Maryland. Even so, he has no intention of accepting a plea deal when he appears at his Oct. 31 hearing in Baltimore Circuit Court."

It will be interesting to see how the case turns out in light of Bruen.   If he successfully fights the charges it could have an impact on state reciprocity...

Baltimore.  'Nuff said.

Sucks that he got jammed up doing the right thing.  If the prosecutor files charges and moves forward, we should "peacefully protest."

I don't think Bruen addresses reciprocity between states, but I like a little optimism.  The article overlooks unlawful posession in Maryland, something we know well in New Jersey.  He's basically volunteering to be a test case by disregarding reciprocity or lack thereof.

My prediction is that he loses on a technicality.  Baltimore is not saying he can't carry a firearm, they're saying he can't carry it within 100 ft of a public building, and I think it's common for that type of restriction in every state.

The article certainly implies he was also charged with carrying in MD, a state that doesn't recognize reciprocity with his home state permit.  If true, that could make it an interesting test case under Bruen, though I suspect it would take a number of expensive appeals before he is exonerated.

I agree, the prohibition of carry within 100 ft of a public building will probably jam him up.

It doesn't directly address reciprocity, but Maryland very much appears to me to be one of the "may issue" states it lumps in with NY. It does also at least imply some fairly stringent criteria for establishing "sensitive places", which I assume aptly describes the basis for the restriction on carry within 100' of a public building. I hope this guy has (or can obtain) the resources to pursue a vigorous defense against the charges.
