Not trying to be snarky, but it's a huge deal. National INSTANT Criminal background check should take 10-15 minutes tops, just like it used to be before people realized the need for self protection due to the rampant violence that was permitted (and often encouraged) across the country. Since the pandemic has abated (or never truly existed) maybe the NIC delays are due to the influx of carry permit applications that are sitting ignored by some PDs and many courts? And let's not mention the double 2 hr.+ round trips to the gun shop.

NJ is simply playing games, deliberately taking longer than needed.  I live in NH.  When I buy a handgun, the shop calls it into the state and stays on hold until they provide an answer.  It's rarely more than a couple minutes.  NH uses the same process as NJ, where you call into the state and the state then uses the Fed database along with checking whatever they do at the state level.

It used to take a day or so but the NH legislature told the NHSP to get their act together or they'd be taken out of the process entirely.

Once the PTC lawsuits settle down, there really needs to be an effort (lawsuit!) over this insane NICS delay.. No doubt its fully intentional, and sadly people are slowing becoming accustomed and accepting of a 5-7 wait..  Just plain old wrong...

Do NJ LTC holders get to bypass the NICS check when buying a firearm?

It would make sense to exempt anyone with a permit to purchase a handgun from NICS checks, since the permit to purchase background check is way more rigorous than NICS, and very recent if the permit is still valid.

The reason I asked that question is that CHL holders in Texas get to bypass NICS.

Didn’t know if it worked the same way in NJ now that you CAN get a CHL.

Shoulda figured NJ would still be fucking gun owners.

And I bet "they" are trying to throw more obstacles in the way.

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
    • I get the added benefit that since I have a TSP rather than a true 401(k) they tax my retirement too. Yaaaay!
