M1152 713 Posted October 13, 2022 October 13, 2022. At a press conference today, legislative leaders in the New Jersey state house announced plans to attack and destroy right to carry, in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent Bruen decision upholding right to carry and making it impossible for states like New Jersey to continue blocking issuance of carry permits. https://www.anjrpc.org/page/LawmakersToDestroyCarryRights if already posted elsewhere please delete

Indianajonze 379 Posted October 13, 2022 i've said it before and i'll say it again. the only way to stop madness like this is to pass an amendment that hold lawmakers personally liable for legal fees resulting from laws they sponsor which are ruled unconstitutional. as it stands now, these ppl across the nation (but especially in ny ca and nj) pass any outlandish law they want knowing full well it won't pass scrutiny. they don't care though, because there are no repercussions for them. change that 3

Downtownv 1,775 Posted October 13, 2022 NJ proposal would require insurance for carry permits By Tom Knighton | 10:30 AM on October 13, 2022 Share Tweet Following the Bruen decision, a lot of states suddenly found their gun control laws null and void. Since these were anti-gun states, it’s unsurprising that many are trying to find new rules that they believe will conform to the ruling. But New Jersey’s latest proposal has serious issues. Why? An insurance requirement, that’s why. New Jersey residents hoping to carry guns in public would first be required to buy insurance and complete gun-safety training under a measure to be introduced by legislative leaders on Thursday — steps that, if enacted, would represent some of the strictest gun rules in the country. … William J. Castner, an adviser to Gov. Philip D. Murphy on firearms issues, said the legal challenges that the New York law is facing will be instructive as New Jersey finalizes its legislation. “New Jersey at least now has the benefit of crafting this law with an eye toward defending new requirements on training, mandatory insurance, disqualifying offenses and sensitive places where guns will not be allowed at all,” Mr. Castner said. One novel element in the proposed legislation is the statewide requirement that gun owners applying for permits to carry weapons in public also purchase liability insurance. In January, San Jose, Calif., will begin requiring all gun owners to carry liability insurance, but no state has mandated insurance as a condition of gun ownership. And how many legislators got flipped- 1-2 ? The number of pissed off 2A folk pales in comparison vs the entire state. Bruen is already the answer but here you are again with NJ trying to flaunt it. M1152 713 Posted October 13, 2022 You have to love how they were fine with the law when only the ruling class was able to obtain conceal carry permits. "cant carry somewhere unless they expressly say it's ok"?? which means, unless a "we welcome guns" sign is there, it's illegal? it's just a way to stop ppl from carrying....again.

Displaced Texan 11,737 Posted October 14, 2022 He doesn’t care. He (and the state senate) know that this will be struck down when it’s challenged, but he’s signaling his base that they are for ‘sensible’ gun restrictions. A court challenge, with enough time and money, will strike this down. It’s a matter of time and money.

gleninjersey 2,141 Posted October 14, 2022 "Fees to apply for a carry permit would also go up from $2 to $200." At current levels (300k applied) that's $30 million a year or $60 million every two years. They will use this as a war chest to clog up the courts for years with BS laws that we'll be funding! Disgusting. So $200 to apply,$50 to get fingerpinted, $100 + dollars to qualify, and probably about another $50 - $75 in assorted fees (notary, passport pics, ammo). So $400 minimum to apply for the permit. And then you have to start the renewal process about every 18 months at probably the same costs I'm assuming. Though I'm sure they'll rise. How is that not cost prohibitive? What other Constituional protected rights do you have to pay exorbitant fees to exercise and "renew" every two years??

That's what they are counting on. Tie it up in court over, and over, and over again with blatantly illegal laws or laws that they know will more than likely be struck down.
