What coffee is everyone drinking these days?

Recommended Posts

I was drinking Black Rifle for a few years, but gave it up due to their politics.  Switched to Blackout, which I have enjoyed for a couple of years, but my wife feels it is not particularly flavorful.

I would prefer a company owned and run by military veterans, so wondering what suggestions you folks might have?

Full Metal Java.  My two favorites are Back the Blue and #FJB (Freedom Java Beans, nod, wink wink).

Not what the OP is looking for, but for us it’s usually Folgers Colombian from Costco, and occasionally Starbucks Breakfast Blend

BUT, for Christmas I gave my wife a couple of pounds of green coffee beans. We’re going to make our first attempt at roasting at home.

Eight O'clock regular medium beans. Just bought a Mueller grinder to properly prep beans for the French Press to go with it.

Mrs. 45Doll is to coffee as I am to firearms. They have to be good. So I the Domestic Engineer remain on the hunt.

I have to say the most amazing coffee either of us ever had was Douwe Egberts. But hard to find, very expensive, and the 'coffee pots' to brew it were astronomically expensive. And I'm talking about the professional line for restaurants etc. It's frozen pre-brewed blocs, and the 'pots' basically just add hot water. You can call for anything from one cup to a whole pot. The point of the method (for restaurants at least) is there's no waste. Reminded me of drinking premium hot chocolate.

One of my long time cigar buddies has a coffee company.  Janus Coffee Roasters.  He knows his shit.  Great blends.  Sorted out by Country of origin, roast level, type of brew, etc.

My BIL started off this company with his best friend.

Wanted to report back that we have been drinking Full Metal Java for about a week now, and are enjoying its full flavor and smoothness.  Thanks for the suggestion.

We just finished our first attempt at home roasting.  It went pretty well.   I found green beans at Greene Brothers in Hacketstown and we roasted our first batch on the stove a few days ago.   It can also be done in the oven or on a grill, and I'm told some air popcorn poppers work fairly well, or you can pay big bucks for a home roaster.   Roasting is a little smokey, but it didn't smoke out the kitchen nearly as bad as cooking smash burgers...

The pan roasting is over in less than 10 minutes, followed by a quick cooldown and holding the roasted beans at room temp for 2-3 days before grinding.   We brewed our first pot this morning, and I'm happy with it.  A fun project, and cheaper than buying good roasted coffee.

Ordered their "Recoil Extra Dark".  Very, very tasty.  I will definitely be ordering more from them.  Thank you for the suggestion!

Whatever cheap **** my wife finds at the grocery store. She doses hers up with so much sugar and half and half that she can't tell the difference. I drink it black, but it's easier to drink that slop than deal with the chin music if I complain.
