10X 3,296 Posted February 2, 2023 I think it will be useful to maintain a list of business that are posting some variation of a ‘No Guns’ sign in NJ. I'd like to crowdsource the data. If forum members can list, in this thread, the County, Town, and Business Name, plus any notes you think relevant, I will periodically pull the information out of the thread, and add it to this top post. It should give carry permit holders on this forum one post to check to see where private businesses have added restrictions. I'm not capturing here the broader restrictions that are part of NJ law...schools, courthouses, etc. This is NEITHER A COMPREHENSIVE NOR A CURRENT LIST of NJ businesses that have posted any variation of a “No Guns’ sign. Data is reported by NJGunForums members and updated to this post as time allows. Each carry permit holder remains responsible for looking for ‘no guns’ signage whenever entering a business. Format: County, Town, Business Name, Relevant Notes, Date Posted to the forum Note Regarding Movie Theaters: Regal, AMC, and Cinemark all operate cinemas in NJ, and all are reported by multiple sources to have 'no gun' policies. From what I can tell, only Regal mentions it on their website, buried in the 'Regal Admittance Policy/Costumes with Masks and Props' section, where both prop and real firearms are prohibited. Look closely for 'no guns' signs when attending the theater, and let me know if such signs are sighted in the wild. Note regarding Costco: I’ve not seen a ‘no guns’ sign at any Costco I’ve visited, but the corporate website prohibits carry at all Costco locations. https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/709/~/are-guns-%26-personal-firearms-allowed-in-costco-warehouses%3F Atlantic Atlantic City All Casinos Announced by Casino Association of NJ 2/7/23 Mays Landing. HBecwithFn7 296 Posted February 3, 2023 A question, though. Do "No Gun" signs in NJ now carry the force of law? That's one of the biggest issues in Florida, Currently, they do not in FL but if we get "constitutional carry" in FL (especially if it implies "open carry" (currently, the proposed FL HB 543 does not)), various retail / tourist commerce associations (like "The Rodent/FRF") will scream bloody murder until it's included. thereby rendering all forms of carry useless/worthless. If we adopt "permitless carry" (as it is not true "constitutional carry") as currently written, then whatever all a merchant can do is eject us from the premises if we are caught carrying in their premises (Concealed is concealed, after all). Now, if we refuse to leave after being ordered to, that becomes "Armed Trespass," a felony. If signs acquire the force of law, we can be arrested on the spot and charged criminally, no matter if we do choose to leave the premises or not. 10X 3,296 Posted February 13, 2023 Bumping this thread. I'm encouraged by how very few businesses have been called out thus far as having 'no guns' policies, but at the same time I want to be sure any of which we're aware are added to the top post. So if you've seen a 'no guns' sign, let me know!
Mrs. Peel 7,157 Posted February 14, 2023 @10X -- There are a number of posters that don't use the 1A Lounge. Is there a reason you started this in here, and not a public-facing forum? I mean, your call - but it would get more eyes on it elsewhere. Up to you!
10X 3,296 Posted February 14, 2023 My thinking when I started the thread was that it would attract (not undeserved) bashing of businesses that post signs, calls for boycotts, and other political discussion. But you make a very good point about more eyes on the thread being useful. I've no objection if you want to move it to the more open side of the forum.
Mrs. Peel 7,157 Posted February 17, 2023 @10X - moved and pinned. It should get more eyes on it now. Let me know if it becomes burdensome and you need help keeping up with it. 1 1

I'll continue to bump it once a week or so, but we're all hoping the list never becomes so long as to be burdensome. 1

Tunaman 548 Posted February 17, 2023 We should make a flyer and drop them at every privately owned company and store: Dear Store Owner: Thank you for your consideration of NOT posting a "No Guns allowed" sign. As you know, people see these signs and will keep walking instead of entering. If you have no sign as you do right now, you will get all the customers you have now and quite a few new ones. Posting the sign will no doubt get you less customers. Thank you for your consideration, The Law Abiding Fellow Citizen 2

GRIZ 3,369 Posted February 18, 2023 Okay. First of all I can't support no legal concealed carry. However, if you believe in the 2A you have to believe in private property rights. Casinos have always been off limits even for cops. The only people who can carry in casinos are NJSP assigned to the casino detail or Feds. Twist on that. I've said this before. I'm encouraged by how very few 'no guns' businesses we have in the list so far, but if you see a sign, post it here and I'll move it to the top post to keep the information all in one place.
