Where to find NJ-compliant AR or subgun style pistols

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So, not to let permits go to waste... any thoughts or leads on compliant pistols in the style of ARs, AKs or subguns? Even fixed mag is fine.

Curious to find an interesting indoor range toy that doesn't have to be overly practical. :D Just not sure where to look...

Most, if not all, of the models on the market are a no-go in NJ as they would be considered Assault Weapons:

B. a semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of the following:

an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;

a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;

manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and

a semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm; and,

There was one company whose name escapes me at the moment that made an AR type with a lot of plastic (to make the weight read) and no handguard, but I’m not sure if they are around anymore. Ping NJGF User @PK90 . I think he used to sell them before he moved to freedom in AZ.

Closest I think we could come to shrouded AR Pistol with rifle velocities is a pistol grip fed (think FN5.7 or .22WMR) with a non-threaded barrel just long enough to keep the manufactured weight under 50oz without a brace (but retain ability to add an aftermarket one post sale).

There are rifles close to this.  If they removed the stock, shortened the barrel and shroud, and reduced manufactured weight to just under 50oz it would be GTG.
