Dopes from Walmart

Recommended Posts

I sent this email and recieved this dumb reply. Obviously a form letter.

Bunch of dopes.

Hello I went into the Riverdale NJ walmart looking for ammunition for my Kimber 45acp 1911. I was told that it was illegal for walmart to sell ammo in NJ. I have looked into this and found it not to be true. So I'm asking if you will consider selling ammo in the Riverdale store. It's location is ideal as cherry ridge range one of NJ's biggest and most successful ranges is just north of the store off of rout 23. Most people heading to and from this range drive right by the riverdale store. I think with a minimal amount of advertising in your flier and on the NJ gun forum you could be one of the states largest suppliers of ammunition. New Jersey has a growing population of Gun enthusiasts that need a good fair priced supplier of ammunition and you can fill that need.

Now the reply

Thank you for your message.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting us about the availability of ammunition in our stores. We have seen an unanticipated higher demand in ammo this year verses last in some areas. As with all products where demand is high, we work with suppliers to replenish stores as quickly as they possibly can.

We apologize for the inconvenience of not having the product you seek in stock, but know we are aware and are working on the issue, and we hope you check back with the store.

So that we may better serve all customers, we sometimes will place a limit on a the amount of a product that can be purchased, where demand is high. In some locations we are placing this limit on ammunition (six per customer) for a period until our suppliers can better fulfill orders.

We can not speculate why there is a higher demand in ammo this year, verses last.

Sincerely,

Walmart Customer Care

How did they manege to become number 1 :deadhorse:

because of all the places that are open 24 hours, with true one stop shopping. I mean hell the store back home sells all groceries, guns, ammo, tires has an auto repair shop, I am waiting for them to add a harley dealer on to them and car dealers. Unfortionatly we live in the socialist state of new jersey and most likely it is illegal for them to sell ammo or guns there do to the state wanting to know everytime you fart.

Man, Wal Marts here are nothing compared to the "outside world." I remember there being three Super Wal Marts and Super Targets within a ten mile radius in the Denver suburbs... ah, the power of knocking down socio-cultural and racial barriers.

What makes me scratch my head though is when gas stations sell alcohol (in Colorado too-- not here). They couldn't sell it after midnight, but still.

cant sell ammo past 10pm

Most Wal-Marts, including the one by me only have a limited number of sales associates that can release ammo and firearms if sold on that location. A 24 hour location most likely does not have such an employee on site so sales are shut down. The Pharmacy also has limited hours when compared to the rest of the store.

NJ stores won't sell ammo because the paperwork is not worth when compared to the profits of such limited sales. That is the reason most stores up here dropped firearm's sales.

most likely it is illegal for them to sell ammo or guns there do to the state

No, it iws not. It is simply a corporate decision.

No Wal-mart in NJ sells ammo from what I understand. I heard you have to send every employee that handles the transaction to a class to get "certified" to sell guns and ammo in NJ. Wal-Mart decided that it was to much trouble and decided against selling ammo in NJ. I for one cannot blame Wal-Mart for this one. Its such a pain in the ass to do business in this state.

Do you need an FFL to sell ammunition commercially?

Manufacturer and sell...yes

Type 6 FFL is a licensed maker of ammunition and reloading components other than Armor Piercing ammunition

Sales of commercial ammo -NO. Gun clubs, mine included sell shotgun ammo at our shotgun sports facilities. No FFL is required.

Reloaders should take note that reloading and selling ammo even to friends can be a potential violation.

However, NJ requires a Retail License. Information can be found under;

N.J.A.C. 13:54-3.2 Retail license required

No retail dealer of firearms nor any employee of a retail dealer shall sell or expose for sale or possess with intent to sell, any firearm, parts of firearms, ammunition, or engage in gunsmithing, unless such person has first obtained a retail dealers license issued pursuant to this chapter.

Did they ever?

Never seen it in the one I've been in but I rarely go in them. The one's up here do not sell amm so no doubt they don't in NJ. Maybe a lot of years ago when many sold ammo and firearms.

I used to buy shotgun shell in the K mart located on Rt. 10 can't remember the town maybe Mill Brook on my way to the public range in Randolph, I would like to know if the range is still open, many years ago you could shoot rifles then was only shot guns and archery.

I remember by looking in Google maps, it was Black River Wild life Management Area by Route 513.

I doubt Walmart will ever sale ammo in NJ. Unless we get some of these crummy laws revoked and not make it a criminal offense to enjoy shooting. Till then Ill just have to buy online or at the few shops that sell ammo...................Or get into reloading. :)
