U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every nation a veto.

The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State Department, overturns the position of former President George W. Bush's administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national controls were better.

On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States. The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of all firearms.

The Obama administration is attempting to use tactics and methods of gun control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US citizens even understand what has happened. Obama can appear before the public and tell them that he does not intend to pursue any legislation (in the United States) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to international treaties and foreign gun control laws. Does that mean Obama is telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits firearm and ammunition

manufacturers from selling to the public. We will wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection and destruction center or face imprisonment.

This is not a joke, nor a false warning. As sure as government health care will be forced on us by the Obama administration through whatever means necessary, so will gun control.

Please forward this message to others who may be concerned about the direction in which our country is headed.

We are being led like a lamb to the slaughter (Socialism/Dictatorship).

Does the Obama Administration think no one is going to take this to the SCOTUS? He can't "bypass" the Constitution.

time to buy a few more guns and some land.

but seriously under obama, America is turning into hell, and Ukraine/Russia is looking more and more like the land of liberty. In russia, you can legally roll around with a loaded ak 47 on your back seat as long as it is in open sight.

First health care reform.

Now wall street reform.

then regulating what you can and cannot eat.

next it will be whom you can and cannot fornicate with.

Why are so many americans so blinded?

trust me, I lived under socialists and communists, my parents did, my entire family did. there is a reason why we can to the states..... If we keep heading down this path, I cannot say I havent at least considered buying some property there. Besides, Sochi 2014.

This will never happen... it takes 2/3 of senate to pass treaties. And even if this whole Dem backed senate voted for it, the GOP would never vote for this. This is a political move to appease the Bradies and far left. It will never leave committee or will be pulled by Barry before he gets egg on his face.

This has less of a chance of passing then I do of banging Selma Hayek.

One thing I have learned is I never put anything past the Stupidity of People. I think this President can talk his way to anything he wants. And there are plenty of people stupid enough to obey him. These treaties have been out there for a while and if any President is going to push them it will be this one.

Be careful what you use for an if... then comparison. As I understand it, Selma is Salma's promiscuous, ugly older sister. You may have a shot at it.

As for the treaty ratification, let's wait and see. I suspect it may fly on just a simple majority. No need to let that pesky Constitution get in the way.

cant pass senate? reconciliation. Doesnt have to.

Keep in mind, gun owners are 32% of the US population. That means 68% of the people dont own firearms or see the need for one.

Trust me, I have lots of friends who cant understand why I need to own firearms.

This is being misinterpreted...this is not a civilian gun ban, this is an export issue.

First off, there would NEVER be a DISARMING of American citizens, just aint gonna happen...

Secondly if you read this treaty, there is no connection between civilian gun bans and export of arms from nation to nation.

And finally, this treaty would never pass in the UN because Russia, China, US make too many weapons for export to Af/Pak and Israel, North Korea, Etc...in other words, the market for weapons is never going away.

So no worries, as this is not a ban, they could not do that, and it would probably not get enforced the way people are feeling today...

NO THE BLACK HELICOPTERS ARE OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW F 'EM ALL I'M GOING DOWN SHOOTING!!!!!!!!!1111111111111

Seriously though, I agree and don't see the correlation to civilian gun restrictions. We are also supporting the discussion of the treaty with the stipulation the vote be unanimous... fat chance of that happening.

Yep. Aside from the fact that "Lord of War" was an entertaining film and Nic Cage's best (though I guess that doesn't say much), it does highlight the point that arms trade (legal or not) are boku bucks for nations (and as already noted, many of the permanent member ones for that matter).
