Do the Firearms ID card ever expire? I know you need to get a new one or update it if you move or change your name. But does the original Firearm ID card have an expiration date?

There is a change of info form, it still takes time, but not as much as the initial process did.

No references or anything like that needed.

It's the same form, just check a different box on the top. Length of time it takes is dependent on the individual town (and how long it takes for your old town to send over your file).

I just went through the process and NO references or anything like that were needed. Just indicated change of address on the form. Also it took half the time of the initial ID. I guess it varies from town to town significantly.

EDIT: I'm retarded, disregard my previous statement, I did need references! Sorry for the confusion :oops:

You are all correct! Like most things dealing with firearms in NJ, there is never a straight-forward, easy-to-understand approach. Many things are left up to the interpretation of your local municipality, which results in many differences from town to town.

 

There is a form for a duplicate FPID, which also serves for change of address etc. It is form STS-003 - which very closely resembles the regular application for an FPID/P2P (STS-033). Here's a link to STS-003:

As I recall, when I moved, I had to go through the whole process again, and I'm in a township that isn't too hard on gun owners. I think you're just going to have to go with the flow of the municipality where you are locating. We'd all like to fight these inconsistencies/abuses, but it always comes down to $$$$$$$$.

It depends on the town. I thought you could, but when I brought just that form to change my address, I was given 2 other forms and was told to fill it in duplicate with all original signatures. It was basically like applying for a new permit.

This is how it was pre-corzine..however Corzine instituted the background check (and fee of course) for every transaction, going from days to weeks for some things. where I am now it went from, when i first moved here and i got my change of address in a day, to seven weeks when i bought my house in dec of 07.

I do believe that the STS-3 (REV 1/00) was replaced by the STS-3 (REV 09/06) and then combined with the STS-33 (REV 7/98) to be replaced by the STS-033 (REV 09/09).

 

 

The old ATF Form 4473 was replaced by a politically correct ATF Form 4473 and then replaced by a new ATF Form 4473.
