Legal in NJ to use hand signals in car (for turn signals)?

According to what I remember my Driver's Manual said back in high school it is. Unless the law has changed since then(90s).

Also, I think you are supposed to use them only if your signal(s) that is out.

But I think, when driving a vehicle, they are meant for emergency situations. Like if your bulbs are out or you got rear ended and your lights are broken.

I use hand signals all the time.

 

Girl cut me off this morning...hand signal.

 

Dummy going 52 in left land of 208...hand signal.

 

Seems to make the other drivers agitated but it makes me feel better.

Who cares... not like 50% of people use signals to begin with. At least I won't get stopped and ticketed.

Ya can't use the hand signals instead of fixing your car, or because you're driving with your arm out the window and ya don't feel like flipping the switch. You have to use them if your signal is out. The signals of pointing your middle finger or repeatedly pointing your pointer like an old lady are not in the drivers manual. Waving when someone lets you in is nice. If you're going to use your middle finger to an officer of the law you should make sure they're in a town other than theirs and deny deny deny if it gets escalated.
