Military Crimp removal

Hello All,

 

I have only been reloading for about a month now. I have reloaded about 1200 rounds and now am down to my once fired military brass. I bought an RCBS crimp remover for my case prep center. After 70 rounds it already seems to be getting dull. What do you guys use? Is there an easy way / tool to remove the crimps. Thanks in advance for all the help.

There are a lot of similar complaints over at cabelas about RCBS crimp remover

 

I got a Hornady carbide bit and chucked it in a VS drill. makes very short work of crimps.

The carbide will last a loooongggg time when cutting brass.

I use the RCBS case mouth chamfer tool for crimp removal. Quick twist and it is gone. Been doing it for years, no problems.

I try to avoid military brass, but when I do, I do what tim told me to. I use a Lee chamfer and deburr tool. Quick, $3 and it works.

whats the deal with the "military crimp"? Looks like they have some sort of deformation in the primer area that will fugg up your primers if you reload it?

It's like three little "fingers" that poke out of the normally round hole in the head of the case. They hold in the primer really tightly. I was told that this was to prevent them from rattling loose (i.e. and causing stoppages) in weapons that had automatic fire capability. I have a special drill bit that takes them off in a second.

You can see a commercial no crimped round, a ring crimp, and a 3 point stab crimp. Prevents primers from backing out just incase the gun is out of spec or loose.

 

My 1919 hated 30-06 rounds without primer crimps with the .308 bolt because the slot is a tad wider. The primers would back out and sometimes jam it up. Crimped primers, no problem. 30-06 bolt fixed that though

Nothing is better then the Dillion. Spend the money once and it will last a lifetime.

I've used one for over 30 years with great results and no sharpening with at least 300,000 rounds loaded.
