robot_hell 72 Posted August 23, 2010 Anyone know if there is such an animal as a .22lr spitzer round for a bolt action? Haven't found much in a google search.
sirsloop 1 Posted August 23, 2010 You're talking about something like a ballistic tipped .17, but in .22LR? I dont think so... probably not enough velocity to make it worth it and it would cost too much.
robot_hell 72 Posted August 23, 2010 There were a few ammo types listed as "polymer tip" on ammoengine but the pictures looked like truncated cone copper plated lead. Damn, was looking for something to get a little more distance out of the 22.
Mauser88 0 Posted August 29, 2010 Nope, no spitzer. The .22LR is already a soft point lead bullet.
robot_hell 72 Posted September 9, 2010 Looks like some company came along and claims to make what I'm looking for: http://www.rimfireuniverse.com/products.html I suspect its claims are mostly marketing BS

Damn, was looking for something to get a little more distance out of the 22. You might want to look at rifles in 17HM2. The caliber has diminished in popularity, but I think it is great. The ammo has 75% of the ballistics of 17HMR, but at half the cost. Savage still makes them, and you can get a new old stock CZ 452. You can even get a 17HM2 conversion kit for a Ruger 10/22. GRIZ 3,365 Posted September 11, 2010 Looks like some company came along and claims to make what I'm looking for: http://www.rimfireun...m/products.html I suspect its claims are mostly marketing BS You would have to take care and ensure the FMJ wasn't used in a tubular magazine. Yes they are npt centerfire but i wouldn't want to press my luck. I also don't think spitzer 22 rfs have enough velocity to start with to make a spitzer that much moe effective. Even the Hornaday Levevolution rounds really don't give that much of an advantage and are more a marketing ploy (to me anyway).
