Removing a buttstock from a Stag Arms Model 2 M-4

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am trying to remove my 'adjustable' stock from my AR.

The problem I am having is removing the tube from the lower.

Is there anyway to get this off without a spanner wrench?

I am sure in NJ its loctited on.

I am going to put a regular buttstock on it.

Any advice on how to get this tube off?

I took the spring and buffer out BTW..

I doubt you'll be able to get off the castle nut (receiver extension nut) without a spanner wrench. I'm sure someone can lend you one though (and they are fairly inexpensive). That plus a little heat should do the trick.

Hair dryer heat, or blow torch heat?

Do you think they sell the spanners at HD?

I just removed the stock from my Stag m8 and the castle nut was staked. I have a hammerhead rifle tool which accepts a half inch drive ratchet.I used a breaker bar to muscle the castle nut off. There was no locktite.I never would have been able to remove it without the spanner.

Pipe wrench?

That'll probably work, but you won't be showing off your pristine castle nut to your friends. I would imagine a pipe wrench would do a number on the finish. I wouldn't think a new one would cost much though.
