Spartacus99 0 Posted October 14, 2010 I am considering purchasing this rifle with the necessary mods done on it to make it NJ compliant. http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=113&products_id=443'>http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=113&products_id=443 Is this a good deal and a good rifle? It will come with a 30rd magazine that is modded to accept only 10 rounds http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php? main_page=product_info&cPath=63_102&products_id=341 Is this OK in New Jersey? When people see it they of course will automatically think that it is a banned magazine. Are there better deals to be found locally on a comparative build? I have read a lot of good reviews on Spikes rifles, sorry no first hand experience. As far as the mags go you are allowed 15 rounds here in this oppressive state. There is at least one forum sponser that sells 15/20 and 15/30 Pmags. Midwest PX.
Spartacus99 0 Posted October 14, 2010 Do people generally use 15/30 and 15/20 magazines? I feel that I might be inviting unnecessary scrutiny at the range.
JimmyAGR 54 Posted October 14, 2010 Do people generally use 15/30 and 15/20 magazines? I feel that I might be inviting unnecessary scrutiny at the range. They are as legal as the 10/20 and 10/30 mags.
Spartacus99 0 Posted October 14, 2010 Jimmy, I guess that's the bottom line, Thanks!

I don't see how you'd invite any more scrutiny than if you were to use a 10/20 or 10/30 since the exterior bodies are the same.
bbk 188 Posted October 15, 2010 That's a really good price actually. I've heard only good things come from Spikes as well... and its a middy too! Nice selection, very nice. Of course you'll need to have it neutered (), but its great that Spikes is so accommodating for us oppressed and will do everything for you in-house. ChrisJM981 924 Posted October 15, 2010 I prefer a chrome lined barrel to a chrome moly one. It's more resistant to corrosion and has a longer wear life. More info here. I prefer the 15/20 configuration for shooting from a bench. You'd need a real high sandbag or rest to have enough clearance for the bottom of the magazine not to hit the bench. 15/30 is good if you want to put them in a tactical vest as most have pouches for a 30 rd mag. The 20 tends to get lost and slide to the bottom making it difficult to perform a quick mag swap.

I believe it is chrome lined: "1.2.2.2 MIL-STD-171 hard chrome chamber and bore." ETA: I would skip the 10 round mags and order some 15 rounders from MidwestPX in your choice of body size. Why have 10 when you can have 15? Price is about the same.
DevsAdvocate 112 Posted October 15, 2010 WOW, I may get one myself... do they sell it as an upper?
vjf915 456 Posted October 15, 2010 Yes, Spikes offers that upper. I believe it runs just under $500 on aimsurplus.com
ChrisJM981 924 Posted October 15, 2010 I believe it is chrome lined: "1.2.2.2 MIL-STD-171 hard chrome chamber and bore." You're right Pete. I misread that description. It is a poly chrome steel barrel with chrome lining. I know you can use heavier bullets in the 1 in 7" twist. Are you still able to use 55 grain ammo? Caine 147 Posted October 15, 2010 Yeah, a 1/7 will handle 55gr just fine, altho it's probably best to not go any lighter than that.
