Bullet Hole vs Bayonne Pistol Range

Recommended Posts

I'm just trying to keep this fair, that's all. I'll be using a few different guns, mostly plastic, and a 686. All I'm asking is that you use a gun that would qualify as a defensive gun. Adjustible sights? Sure, if you want to go that route. But if you think it's an even battle if a Glock 19 goes against an adjustible sighted 1911 then your not getting it.

I understand you guys are competitors, but I'm sure you have a handgun or two with "combat sights". I'm trying not to make this the IPSC/IDPA shooters with 1200 dollar 1911s verse the guys using stock Glocks and Beretta's.

Herein lies what can be defined and construed as what can be described as the infamous "race gun"...

A racegun is a type of handgun, shotgun, or rifle that has been modified for accuracy, speed, and reliability. Used primarily in NRA Action Pistol (The Bianchi Cup), USPSA/IPSC and similar styles of competition, raceguns are typically based on common guns and modified to function the best within a certain set of rules, such as weight, size, and capacity requirements.

Typical modifications include a match-grade barrel fitted with a recoil compensator, electronic optical sights, match-grade hammer and sear, a tuned trigger, and "skeletonizing" (cutouts to reduce weight.) In addition to the modifications aforementioned, a typical open class semi-automatic racegun specifically tailored for The Bianchi Cup open division has a "barricade shroud" that completely encircles the slide with "wings" attached to opposing sides, a "moving target scope mount" with a pivoting base adjustable for predetermined lead depending on the bullet's velocity and speed and direction of the moving target, and a form of grip extension that elevates the gun for better line of sight while shooting in the prone position. Depending upon the competition requirement, some raceguns are modified with reduced-weight recoil springs to allow the use of lightly-loaded ammunition that is just barely powerful enough to cycle the gun's mechanism, in order to reduce recoil and permit a faster rate of fire. The Steel Challenge speed shooting championship is such an event, where in its early days a 120 power factor hit was required to activate the stop plate to stop the clock is now no longer necessary so that competitors can go faster than ever before. To prevent this, certain competitions such as IPSC and USPSA require ammunition to meet specific power factors.

Some organizing bodies in practical shooting, most notably IDPA and the production division of The Bianchi Cup, ban most or all of the modifications that distinguish raceguns from stock firearms, as they feel that such extensive modifications have turned the sport into a technology race rather than a true contest of skill, and thus are no longer "practical," i.e., applicable to real-life self-defense shooting situations. In the case of the Bianchi Cup/NRA Action Pistol, this was also done to increase participation at the grassroots level in order to reduce the equipment cost associated with competing in the open division, which can run upwards of $3500 USD or more on a Bianchi racegun as compared to a $400 to $1000 stock gun. Many believe this new division, plus the newly implemented $100,000 cash prize award to the first production class shooter to break 1900 at the national championship in May, will hopefully increase participation that has seen its decline for the last 2 decades or so. It is the opinion of the experienced individuals involved in the sport that perfect scores of 1920 accompanied with nearly perfect x-counts of the top 1 ~ 2% which were mostly sponsored professional competition shooters and very dedicated Bianchi Cup "specialists" shooting their tricked out open guns have intimidated many top shooters from other disciplines and average Joes and Janes alike to give this match a try, citing the difficulties of obtaining such high standards even with these specialized raceguns.

I think the problem is that you want to level the playing field to a HD gun that is comparable to what YOU have. That's fine, but everyone has their own interpretation of what a HD gun is. So that being said I don't own any guns with fixed combat sight because IMHO they are junk to me. All my guns have adjustable sights, and once sighted in they hardly ever need adjustment.

So I'll bring my 1911's and maybe something plastic fantastic to shoot.

Think of it as drag racing we are running what you brung for a certain class. (class being HD)

We can also consider teams shooting the same gun.

Easier said than done because it would have to be an impartial gun that both teams can agree on. So that one team would not have an "unfair" advantage.

Something to think about for future events.

How about bringing different guns and the opponent chooses what the person should shoot. He'll have 3 practice shots or something..

You could also shoot any gun except the one you brought. That should make it interesting.

Okay, I like Tommy's idea of your opponents choosing your gun for you. BUT, every gun must be used once. For instance team A brings a Glock, XD, Beretta, and a Colt. All 4 must be shoot during the event. So no pistol gets left behind.

What are the teams looking like?

Tuesday, next week. 7:30 PM

Who is challenging my team!

I can probably make it up to Bayonne next Tuesday, but 7:30pm woul be a struggle. I walk in my door at 6:30. I would need to grab my sh** and go. I would still be a bit late.

Sure is. But at some point we can make them come to us.

That's the idea.

I'll problably just look to get 8 guys or whatever number we got and do a little competition since the Bullet Hole girls haven't responded to my threats!

I have no problem SPANKING your team by myself if my teammates can't make it, like taking candies from babies.... :p

That - was from me!

You might be on a team you never met before, as I'm just gonna split everyone up that night and go from there.

You can - me back, I've gotten a bunch of those over my days here!

I though the whole point was to have team vs team, if people are just grouped together randomly. What's the point?

And can you fill in the blanks? I have no idea what you were trying say.

Our BH (butthole) GIRLS team consisting of voodoodaddy, BullzeyeNJ, and me will be there next week. If one of our sisters can not make it, we will shoot AS IS. We will bring a plethora of "HD" type guns to compete with. Either way the BH GIRLS are coming to bring it on with our total DOMINATION! Our spirit fingers are getting itchy, too much typing and not enough shooting.
