Pmags won't drop free

Recommended Posts

I have an older Essential Arms lower and the Pmags I have from MidwestPX aren't dropping free. It'll pop down a bit, then seems to bind on the rear sides. Should I just sand the mags until they drop? Seems simple enough, but wanted to see if any one else had this issue. I've heard some pmag runs were a bit large. I don't have any steel mags to test with to see how they work in comparison.

Typically, it's an issue with the receiver. I've seen this with Essential Arms, first gen M&P15s, Aeros, and a few smaller name lowers. The solution is to typically take fine grit sandpaper and sand the PMAG down just enough to make it drop free.

Ty,

any disadvantages to sanding the mags down?

Had this issue with some older Pmags in my Spikes lower. Newer Pmags drop free.

contact Ty @ midwest, he would have an idea. Otherwise, metal mags should drop free. We now have a vendor doing metal 15 round mags.

Good to know, thanks Maks!

    • Lead and brass, the new PMs, that will replace Gold and Silver on the Comex.
    • Everyone has suggested I check out Fairfield, but I haven't yet. CR has some 5 stand I think but if I'm going to make a whole day of clays I like taking the drive out to Lehigh. I really should make some time to see Fairfield for myself
    • I've had always had a Mini 14 around for over 40 years.  Before the late 70s if one wanted a military style semiautomatic rifle you had 3 choices.  The Mini 14, Colt AR15, or M1A.  I bought my first in the middle 70s for about $160, about half the price of an AR15 at the time. I see it as a modern version of a M1 Carbine using a more effective round.  We had them a work back in the 80s and 90s so I probably shot a few dozen of them.  Never saw one that couldn't shoot 3-4" at 100 yards.
    • I agree, prices are going much higher so it doesn't make sense to sell into a lower mkt if you are going to sell. 5.56 to $1/rd will be cheap in 6mos 308 to $2/rd 9, 38, 357 to the moon 22lr is anyone's guess
