Yes it is...we got the recorded phone message from the mayor's office "recommending" that we evacuate. Still deciding if we stick it out or we pack up the van and head out to West PA...Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh? That's like 6 or 7 hours from you. Not including possible hurricane traffic. If we need to go that far to escape hurricane then I'm gonna die :(

------

NEWARK, N.J. - The five main New York City-area airports will be closed to arriving passenger flights beginning at noon on Saturday because of Hurricane Irene, aviation officials said.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airports and area bridges and tunnels, said Friday that many weekend departures already had been canceled in anticipation of the hurricane.

The suspension affects John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports in New York City, Stewart International in the city's northern suburbs and Newark Liberty International and Teterboro in New Jersey. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark are among the busiest airports in the nation.

The suspension applies to domestic and international flights.

The Port Authority said Friday it was taking the action to avoid stranding passengers at the airports when the region's mass transit systems won't be running because of the hurricane threat.

Please don't go to airport tomorrow. They are canceling so many flights, that even if you think yours might squeak out hours ahead, you could get delayed and put on a last ditch flight that goes right into the death center of hurricane!!!

Seriously, there is too much that can go wrong with travel. The possible shitty outcomes go way beyond being inside the hurricane on your planned itinerary. You could be stranded or jammed long before the hurricane hits, by air and sea and road trifecta.

Eh, if you have to, good luck.

Oh I know, I have been on many conf calls about the operations all day today talking about it with facilities up and down the eastern seaboard, but there isn't a mandatory evac of the tower to close the airport for arrival and departures to hand hand off all traffic to the N90 and ZNY to keep all traffic away from the airport until we hit 70 MPH.

Up to that point if-n you see the tower a rock-in don't come a knock-in.:sarcastichand:

Harry, Anastasia is flying out tommorrow at 11:00 am out of PHL, think it will stick?

11am out of PHL, maybe, maybe not, one of the reasons we are taking down the ops in EWR earlier is due to public transportation in the area. I haven't talk to PHL for about 13 hours when they went into a ground stop this morning so I am not sure of there ops plan, but if they have way to get to and from the airport they were originally planning on ops through noon.

If I'm not mistaken, Harry works at the airport.

Yup, gluten for punishment, said I'd do this gig for a little while but close to 25 years later I'm still there. Hey it's a job and keeps me off the street, and pays the bills so who am I to complain. lol

LOL, OK :) Thanks, I feel better now.

I hate travel problems. I'm not going to gunshow tomorrow because I'm afraid of some kind of hurricane panic on the Northeast Extension. Wouldn't be my first time stuck for hours on that horrible stretch.

Does anyone know if Shoreshot will be open this weekend?

My geography is not the best so unsure how close to the hurricane it will be. Nothing on their website.

TheWombat

Doubt they will be open and even if they were I believe you would need to take back roads to get there being the majors at least coming from the north would either be closed or heavily restricted.

If you believe the talking heads on the weather channel, they're saying you'd have to go at least as far as Altoona to get out of the way of this thing. I'm starting to think this is more hype than anything else...

Dude, someone on 1st street boarde up their windows. Idiots

According to one of www.wunderground.com's maps, based on current "estimates", if this thing is as big as they say it will be, the storm surge will push water from the south side of Bayonne all the way up to 7th street. If that is true....he won't need to board his windows...he will need a freakin' boat.

If you're on 1st street, then according to the NHC there's a 40 to 50 % chance that you'll see a 3 to 4 foot storm surge (above normal tide levels), and that is from Bayonne's south coast all the way up to 3rd street.

Don't know if that means I'm screwed, or if I'll be okay...I'm on Evergreen Street, a block and a half away from the Kill Van Kull ;-(

My son flew into Philly this morning at 6am from San Francisco and said all was well. His boss was supposed to fly into NY later this morning but they cancelled his flight at 7pm last night so he is stuck in sunny California. His boss lives atop a fancy hi-rise on the east side so he is probably better off out there anyway.

Well I was prepping for the storm at the OBRPC indoor range with a little practice and suffered the first casualty in the area I know of, I was shooting at the far end with the wall just on my right and a hot shell bounced back landed on my arm and I got a burn. oops, lol

Hope that the worst we have here in NJ. Best of luck to all of us.

I doubt anyone actually expects that they will need to shoot a lot of people, or that anyone wants to do anything of the sort. It's a gun website. We love ANY excuse to load all of our magazines and handle our firearms :vinsent::hunter:

Epic thread, epic post. Be safe everyone.
