AR-15 mag pouches

Recommended Posts

I'm moving away from using 15/30s and would like to have build a lightweight chest rig to hold a couple of 15/20 style AR-15 magazines. My current rig, a Maxpedition chest rig, seems to be more suited for 15/30 type magazines than anything smaller. Does anyone make a good MOLLE pouch for 20-rd AR-15 mags?

I use these for my 15/20s:

Me too! On your recommendation

Something that I've been wanting to really try (and will probably get later this year) are the Emdom IAP. I don't think they're best for chest rigs, and are more suitable for belts-- but the design does seem pretty interesting.

As Nick said though, placing some foam on the bottom of the pouches works wonders. It will still allow the eyelets to still function as intended, keep the pouches lightweight, and even allow the pouches (at least at the bottom) to maintain a rigidity. I personally have done this with my chest rig.

That looks like a pretty slick set up. May have to try one out.

The only downfall is that I would have to use those dreaded Malice clips!!! :girlwerewolf:

What I really like is that the pouches you linked, Pete, (the ones that we both use on our belts) might snag the magazine when you pull them out (or when you put the mags back into the pouch)-- I'm guessing you might have had this problem at least once.. This is due to the elastic that goes around the pouch (that works as the restraining mechanic).

The IAP might have the same issue, as it uses the same mechanic, but might not be as bad-- as the elastic that goes around the middle is bigger and flatter (unlike one piece of elastic bungee). That with the aggressive rubber-type texture on the inside portion, and yea, definitely slick pouches. Must try. Now.
