Jersey City to Hold Another Gun Buy-Back

Recommended Posts

For those of you who missed it this past July, Jersey City is hosting another Cash for Clunkers program.

This Saturday, residents can turn in weapons for $100 or $150, depending on the type of weapon, at four locations.

The locations are: St. John’s AME Church, 326 Pacific Ave.; St. Michael’s Methodist Church, 37 Virginia Ave.; New Hope Baptist Church, 472 Bergen Ave.; and Abundant Joy Community Church, 137 Bowers St.

since it's an 'amnesty' thing, that 'amnesty' thing covers the bases.

The thing is there is nothing that allows the local government can have a gun amnesty thing, and being that in NJ state law says when it comes to firearms its illegal unless there is an exemption. Also are the people running the event, Considering all the drop off locations are churches this maybe being rung my church organizations in which case they have no authority to even grant amnesty to criminals in the first place even if a buyback program was legal.

Are they giving receipts with the "seller's" name and the serial number of the gun? If they're not what protection do you have if the gun is turned around and used in a crime? And if they are, doesn't that defeat the purpose of anonymous and amnesty? They should really just have the police waiting and arrest everyone who shows up to turn in a gun. No legitimate gun owner is going to turn in a perfectly good gun (they'd be out shooting it), therefore only criminals looking for amnesty from a crime will turn it in, so arrest them an figure out what they did later. And don't tell me "innocent until proven guilty" because if that doesn't apply to law-abiding gun owners, why should it apply to criminals?

Will Jersey City be setting up a table at the next Gun Show? They could turn this into a real money maker and recoup the money they paid out during the buyback. Purchase from the illegals and sell to the legals. The most common names on the buyback receipts are John & Jane Doe. Hell, you can't even take a charitable deduction since Jersey City is not a 501©3 organization.

it is unlawful for an LE agency to sell firearms aquired through the so-called "Buybacks", or through siezure or turn in. the NJAG requires them to be destroyed. Even Departmentally-owned firearms must be sold out of state.
