Due to the frequency of human – bear encounters it is advised that all persons wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as to give advance warning to any bears that may be close by so you don’t take them by surprise. It is also advised to carry “Pepper Spray” in case of an encounter with a bear.

Always be alert for fresh bear activity and be able to tell the difference between Black Bear and Grizzly Bear feces. Black bear feces contain lots of berry seeds and may have rodent fur in it. Grizzly feces have bells in it and smells like pepper.

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car. His father thought about his son's request and told him that he'd consider offering him a deal, "Son, you bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut. Then we'll talk about you using the car."

The boy thought about his father's offer and decided he'd take the deal, so they agreed. After about six weeks of observing the changes in his son's behavior the father said, "Son, you've brought your grades up and I've observed that you've been studying your Bible, but I'm disappointed that you still haven't cut your hair"; to which the son replied, "You know, Dad, I've been thinking about our deal, and I've learned from my Bible studies that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and that even Jesus probably had long hair so I don't think cutting my hair should be part of our deal". His father then replied, "Well son, did you not also learn from your Bible studies that these men walked everywhere they went?"

This is better than "Who's on first" because it's not only complicated, it's a fact.
COSTELLO :  I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.
ABBOTT : Good Subject.  Terrible Times.  It's 5.6%.
COSTELLO :  That many people are out of work?

ABBOTT : No, that's 23%.

COSTELLO : You just said 5.6%.

ABBOTT :  5.6% Unemployed.

COSTELLO :  Right 5.6% out of work.

ABBOTT : No, that's 23%.

COSTELLO : Okay, so it's  23% unemployed.

ABBOTT : No, that's 5.6%.

COSTELLO :  WAIT A MINUTE. Is it 5.6% or 23%?

ABBOTT : 5.6% are unemployed.  23% are out of work.

COSTELLO : If you are out of work you are unemployed.

ABBOTT :  No, Obama said you can't count the "Out of Work" as the unemployed.  You have to look for work to be unemployed.

ABBOTT : No, you miss his point.

COSTELLO :  What point?

ABBOTT :  Someone who doesn't look for work can't be counted with those who look for work.  It wouldn't be fair.

COSTELLO: To whom?

ABBOTT : The unemployed.

COSTELLO : But ALL of them are out of work.

ABBOTT : No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are out of work gave up looking and if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.

COSTELLO: So if you're off the unemployment rolls that would count as less unemployment?

ABBOTT : Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!

COSTELLO : The unemployment just goes down because you don't look for work?

ABBOTT : Absolutely it goes  down. That's how it gets to 5.6%. Otherwise it would be 23%.

COSTELLO : Wait, I got a question for you. That means there are two ways to bring down the unemployment number?

ABBOTT : Two ways is correct.

COSTELLO : Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?

ABBOTT : Correct.

COSTELLO : And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?

ABBOTT : Bingo.

COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to have people stop looking for work?

ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like a Democrat.

COSTELLO:  I don't even know what the hell I just said!

ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like Biden.

An oldie but goodie

On a rainy afternoon in New York City, a group of protesters were gathered

outside the grocery store handing out pamphlets on the   “evils”     of America.

I politely declined to take one.

There was an elderly woman behind me and a young (20-ish) female protester

offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.

The young protester gently put her hand on the old woman's shoulder and in a patronizing voice said, "Don't you care about the children of Iraq or our black children in America?"

The old woman looked up at her and said: "Honey, my father died in France

during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea, and a son in Vietnam.

All three died so a naïve, privileged, ignorant, self-centred white bimbo like you would

have the right to stand here and badmouth our country.

If you touch me again, I'll shove this umbrella up your ass and open it."

Longtime resident Lady Liberty, age 236 was struck by a stolen Chevy Volt last night along the interstate. The driver and passengers, illegally in the US from their native countries across the world, then dragged Ms. Liberty into the woods and brutally sodomized her before heading to the local polling place where they registered using the names of Supreme Court justices and voted without being challenged by UN poll watchers.
Authorities found them around the corner, each with a large supply of newly legalized recreational marijuana, getting high. They were taken into custody and released a short time later with a kiss on each cheek and a prepaid gift card for WaWa to handle the munchies.
Ms. Liberty is in extremely critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit, and doctors are very wary of her chances of recovery. A crowd of zombie-like citizens are already gathered at the Liberty residence, preparing to loot it of valuables when she succumbs to her injuries or the Death Panel declares her worthless and pulls the plug.

    • This stove is over 20 years old so in my research back then, I discovered that a catalytic converter could be expected to last 5 years.  Routine maintenance consisted of taking apart the stove and cleaning the converter annually.  When you say you "don't get more than 6'ish hours average"  I take that to mean you fill up the burn box and don't have to add wood for six hours?  If that's the case, and that's what you are looking for, I don't recommend this stove.  Burn time to add wood for this stove is between 30 - 60 minutes.
    • Link: https://lancasteronline.com/news/local/atf-agents-seize-guns-from-leacock-township-property-amish-farmer-admits-sales/article_736a4096-7e25-11ec-9b81-c73a25950798.html [Note: this is posted to a public forum, so please don't get rabidly partisan/political in your comments. Thx].  This is an interesting recent case where the ATF raided (with 15 agents, no less!) the home/business of an Amish farmer in Lancaster, PA area who owns a dairy farm and foundry and has also done private gun sales (which he claims were all long guns from his large private collection) but which the ATF apparently suspects is more of an unlicensed firearms business. I won't get into the merits of the case itself - since it's too early to do so -but I personally thought it had some interesting angles... First, the Amish people's reticence to being photographed apparently pushes them more towards private sales, a cultural wrinkle I hadn't considered. Quoting from the article: Federal laws require photo identification when purchasing a firearm from a licensed dealer. The Amish contend their religious beliefs prevent them from being photographed, so they cannot buy a firearm from a licensed dealer. However, private sellers don’t have to require the buyer to present photo identification. Additionally, yes, I was somewhat aware of this next angle,  but I guess it never "struck me" until reading this case, re: just how incredibly nebulous and loosely defined the Gun Control Act is with its definition of who needs to get a firearm dealer's license. Again, quoting from the article: A 15-page document posted to the bureau’s [ATF's] site and titled, “Do I need a license to buy and sell firearms?” states that the federal Gun Control Act “requires that persons who are engaged in the business of dealing in firearms be licensed by the bureau.” “Determining whether you are ‘engaged in the business’ of dealing in firearms requires looking at the specific facts and circumstances of your activities,” the document said, noting no federal law sets a “‘bright-line’ rule for when a federal firearms license is required.” The ATF document says a person “will need a license if you repetitively buy and sell firearms with the principal motive of making a profit.” Licenses are not required for someone who engages in “occasional sales of firearms from your personal collection,” the document added. Anyone who “willfully engages in the business of dealing in firearms without the required license is subject to criminal prosecution, and can be sentenced to up to five years in prison, fined up to $250,000, or both,” the document said. Without that clearly defined "bright line" (e.g., no greater than X# guns per year sold, or, sales that are no greater than X# percentage of your annual income, etc.) - it seems like this law is bound to trip people up. On the one hand, the Gov/ATF - through this law - is withholding clear, unequivocal guidance from its citizens, while on the other hand, retaining their ability to punish them severely. (Ha! Am I stating the obvious here? I guess in all these years as a gun owner, I just never really thought about this aspect of the law before... perhaps because I've never personally engaged in a private sale...?).  Anyway, will be interesting to see if we hear more about this case down the road. Just thought it was worthwhile sharing.
    • The metaverse is a pile of shit. Even assuming it is something people want long term, they don’t want what is being made. People don’t want to move to Facebook-burg and be stuck with no amenities but the company store.  Also there were gold atms which heralded the return to hard currency from fiat right? i will also point out that there’s an atm down the street that has a $9 service fee. Just because some grifter sees a chance to make a buck doesn’t mean that’s the future knocking on your door.    I’ll be more excited when making it convenient doesn’t just translate to being rid of the bitcoin you have for a more recognized cash equivalent. Like tell me when we have the first big company offering refunds in crypto when you paid in crypto.
