Repinning the stock on an MP15 or Model 3?

I'm considering buying my first AR and have narrowed my search down to the S&W MP15 or Stag Model 3. Does anyone have experience with repinning either stock? I'd like to pin the stock at position 2 or 3 but to do so will I need a new [shorter] buffer tube or can I keep the factory buffer tube?

You should be able to use the original tube. You just will have an extra hole in it.

depends on how short you want to pin it... some of the pinned stocks actually use slightly longer tubes..

also some of the tubes are glued also..

 

I just reused a tube from my DPMS fortunately it was the right length.. but it WAS glued AND pinned.. so I had to remove the glue as well as the pins... that gun is in PA now so it is not pin it again.. if I did I would simply pin it after moving it..

I would just get a new tube and a magpul stock. While you are pulling it apart you might as well upgrade.

I got a magpul stock but saving the old tube saved me 20 bucks.. not a ton of cash.. but hey it all helps..
