GottaGetOuttaNJ 0 Posted January 20, 2012 So I just finished my Saiga conversion (for now) by installing the bullet guide. Everything feeds great out of the 15/20 AK mags from MTN armory (Thanks Mike!!) I am wondering what to do with my extra factory 10 round mags. I understand that I can cut the built in feed ramp from the factory mags to match the AK mags, but does this take any of the reliablilty away from the mags, and is it difficult? I love the steel mags and will probably get more so maybe I should just sell these mags as is, to someone that isn't doing the bullet guide? Thoughts? vladtepes 1,060 Posted January 20, 2012 put them in and try to cycle the gun.. for the most part.. they normally work without any modification.. that is my understanding at least on MOST Saigas..
RedBowTies88 41 Posted January 20, 2012 If the mags can guide the round in without any bullet guide how could adding a guide change anything? as log as the mags fit as they did before...
GottaGetOuttaNJ 0 Posted January 20, 2012 put them in and try to cycle the gun.. for the most part.. they normally work without any modification.. that is my understanding at least on MOST Saigas.. Thats the thing, mags don't fit anymore. Front of the mag where the feed ramp is hits the front of the bullet guide. Sorry, I should have specified in the OP. jvheitz 5 Posted January 20, 2012 I did the conversion as well, and my factory mag does not fit either. Bullet guide pushes it down just a bit, so the mag will pop in, but the mag catch will not lock. It probably would fit if I filed down the mag release a little bit more. I do not want to do this since the AK mags lock perfect
vladtepes 1,060 Posted January 20, 2012 maybe we have slightly different bullet guides... just shave the front of the Saiga mag where the lip is.. just go slow and test test test.. till it fits.. as long as you don't take off too much you should be good to go.. almiz111 26 Posted January 23, 2012 I have a factory built bullet guide and had to file/cut/trim the mag ramps. Everything is fine now. I have 15/30 metal, Surefire, factory plastic and other all working fine.
GottaGetOuttaNJ 0 Posted January 23, 2012 Thanks for the replys, I have the mags listed in the marketplace. If they don't sell by Friday, I will shave off the feed ramp and keep them.
