Dicks Ammunition Ban & NJ - Perfect together !

Recommended Posts

Well a constitutionally illegal one as far as I'm concerned, but Dicks reason is New Jersey's ban on the sale of hand gun ammunition to anyone without an FID card.

I can understand why you are upset and post your rant. However you need to understand something many people forget.

The Constitution is not there to protect you, me, or anyone else on this forum from one another. It is there to protect everyonr from the government.

If Dick's wants to conduct business thsi way its their choice they are a private entity. If they want everyone wear a hat with a plume to enter their store they can do so. You can make any rules you want as long as its not discriminatory or illegal. If you don't like Dick's go somewhere else.

Dick's is only overreacting to the stupid NJ gun laws as many people on this forum do sometime. Examples? A private sale of a handgun and the buyer, seller, or both insist the transfer be done at a range because if I go to your house that is not covered in the exemptions. The most quoted one is you will be arrested for that one hollowpoint bullet you forgot in the trunk.

Yes, that is what the law says but no one is able to provide specific cites of cases of this happening.

I never have problems with Dick's. I don't go there.

Eh. Shop elsewhere. Plenty of nj gun shops will sell you .223 without an FID.

Exactly. Dick's Sporting Goods Inc (symbol: DKS) is a for-profit corporation that is free, within the limits of law, to run their business whatever way they damn please. To declare that they MUST sell this or that ammo is tantamount to what is commonly (and incorrectly) called in this country "socialism".

Dick's in Paramus does not sell handgun ammo. But Ramsey, 100 yards away on the same strip mall, does. Behold the triumph of the free enterprise.

Oh, and free to have someone pump our gas for us too. I almost forgot that.

And?

I don't know about you, but I'd rather not freeze my a** off in a foot of snow pumping my gas on a January night.

Beside, it provides a minimum wage job for an illiterate Pakistani.

There's much worse things to complain about, you know.

Most are Sikhs and indentured servants of a sort from the few I have gotten to know.

I'm on the fence about pumping my own gas. Keep in mind, when you travel outside NJ, all gas stations tend to have very large canopies over the dispenser islands, and beter facilities. More so than in NJ. My problem is this. If you want to buy gas with CC, pump your own is definitely the way to go. In and out fast. But, if you want to pay cash, like I do, pump your own is a massive PITA. First you have to go inside and pay. Stand and wait in line to pay. Then you pump your gas. Then you go back inside to get your change. Stand and wait in line to get your change. It's really not practical to pay cash for gas outside of NJ, and that kinda sucks big time.

Well, you are comparing yourself to the other 49 states. NJ is defintely on the low end. But they have been talking about rasing the gas taxes in NJ with increasing fury in recent years.

Also, full-service is not the only gas law in NJ. NJ also forbids most discounts and promotions on gas. I paid $3.24 for gasoline in PA this weekend, but that was with $0.20 off per gallon with my Giant grocery card. Almost nobody pays retail prices for gas in PA. Even regular gas stations have loyalty cards and promotions. So, when you compare prices, keep in mind that people outside NJ are paying 15-30 cents less than the advertised price for gas.

Gas can cerainly be found for less than $3.24 in NJ. But, I go to NJ every week, and I CANNOT get gas for cheaper than $3.24 in NJ anywhere along my trip or at my destination.

Not so anymore as other states have lowed their gas tax to help out a bit. I drove out to CO for Christmas and New Years and gas was about 3.10-3.20 here. Didn't pay much more or even less in most states enroute. Bough gas at a no name place for $2.90 in CO.

Kroger supermarket has the gas promotion. If you get 350 points , you get 35 cents off but you have to use the Kroger gas pumps and their (Kroger) credit card to get the 35 cents off. If you have just the Kroger gas card, its only 20 cents.

Swifty gas stations pumps gas for you here just for customer service, .and they are the only ones who do. All the rest of the gas station companies is pay at the pump. Speedway, Marathon, UDF (United Dairy Farmers) and Shell gas stations are big here. I think Oregon is the other state besides NJ that doesn't let you pump your own gas.

Speaking of supermarkets, there are no Pathmark or Shop Rites out here. Kroger is huge, then there is Meijers. Like NJ and NY we do have White Castle here.

I never saw that in NJ. That's the same way it usually works over here. Hmm. I thought that was illegal in NJ. I used to pump gas in NJ and there were all kinds of laws about not being allowed to give away stuff with gas or give discounts on gas. But I certainly never studied those laws. When I got to PA it was the first time I started getting discounts. So I assumed it was illegal in NJ to get loyalty card discounts through connect the dots reasoning.

We have Dicks sporting goods here in KY, I think they are all over. But there as another place like Dicks here, It is called Dunham's. They are located in Alexandria KY. They seem to have more of better selection of rifles in their stores.

I went to Dicks in Freehold a night ago and was interested in an over / under shotgun I spotted so I summoned the samesman over who was already behind the counter. No other customers were there so he was totally free to assist me. Bottom line, he didnt! After several questions about the shotty it became clear that this "dick" was not even going to go touch that shotgun, much less show it to me. In fact he went as far as to answer questions from the hip not even looking at the tag on the shotty, making statements that started off with "I believe or I think" Sure I had my F.I.D. in my wallet but it was evident this guy was not interested in showing me anything. I won't ever go back there (for anything.) either.

That must be the saem gyuy i delt with today. Older guy? I went in this afternnon to buy some 22LR ammo and had forgot my glasses so i wasnt seeing so good. We went to the case and i told the guy i wanted to try a few different kinds to see what shot best. He goes well cci is our best seller i said ok guive me two boxes of that and do you have any match ammo. He says what the hell do you mean match ammo. You know like federal match or the like. Shakes hius head. so i'm getting annoyed just cause hes being an a**. On the way back to the counter I said to him do you have any RUGER 10/22's in stick and he goes what the hell is that. Really you work in a gun department and you don't know what the hell a RUGER 10/22 is probably one of the best selling 22 rifles ever. Just a piss poor attitude to save a few bucks well guesss ill just have to go somewhere else.

How can you purchase a handgun without an FID?

my friend did. he only applied for a handgun purchase permit (didn't check the other box), so they didnt give him an FID since the FID is used for purchasing long guns.

The problem came up when he was trying to buy ammo for the first time at a local gun shop. he always got ammo from somewhere so he never really purchased any ammo in NJ.

.223? I mean, I know that there are a few "handguns" that fire it, but does that make it handgun ammo? My brother-in-law just bought a .45ACP carbine today, since he essentially bought a short rifle, following that logic, shouldn't that make .45ACP a rifle cartridge?

I saw a pistol in 50 bmg ,by that logic it is now a handgun round.

There are no production .50 bmg pistols by any manufacturer. There have been these pistols made, but I suspect even then none of them would qualify as a pistol in NJ due to weight. Any .50 BMG pistol under 20 lbs would break bones, one under 50 ounces would result in a trip to the hospital or the morgue as it flew apart due to insufficient steel around the chamber.

More crying about Dicks again? For craps sake just stop going there.

If they keep treating people like crap and you still go back then you have nothing to whine about. Seriously, just stop going.

Agreed.

BTW. I thought an FID was a prerequisite for a P2P. Don't they have to record your FID number when you use a P2P?

I was under the impression, up until a few minutes ago, that armor piercing handgun ammo was illegal. However, after reading the statutes, it appears that one is exempt from possession and discharge just like hollow point ammo. Am I wrong?
