RubberBullets 65 Posted March 1, 2012 I see whats happening here... take the two hottest markets on tv between NJ and Guns for reality shows (JerseyShore Meets Doomsday Preppers) and make the cast look like obsessive gun toting wiseguys?? fuggeda-boutit! Might as well say "We want to make you people look like assholes on TV!!!, please sign here ________" Please stop trying to exploit legal gun ownership as an obsessive, dangerous underworld that does nothing but get people killed, or portrays responsible gun owners in a negative light. Don't fault non-union for not wanting to pay someone $25 an hour to hold a sign or have to pay someone that same wage who does nothing other than belongs to the union. deadeye74 5 Posted March 1, 2012 I have experience in the tv/film industries. Does not matter if it's a NY or CA production company. Once the local TV union gets word of their work in NJ, they will be approached about using union labor and if they don't, probably will get picketed if it's a large enough production. Personally, I see putting your gun collection, house, neighborhood on TV as a huge FAIL security wise. Last thing I want is the whole country to know where I keep my guns and how I am equipped to deal with a disaster.

Sounds like you've uncovered another fault in NJ. It's a shame this has to happen. Personally, I see putting your gun collection, house, neighborhood on TV as a huge FAIL security wise. Well if you like to be paid sub-standand wages and like having no medical benefits for your family, then don't join a union. And nobody gets paid just for being in a union. Union labor is more professional, more efficient, and safer. And we don't have to listen to BS from morons. Edit: Forgot to mention, you have a WEEKEND because of unions. The unions over the last 25-30 year are a huge factor with this country being in the shape that it's in now. Re-read what you just typed. More efficient? More professional? Not getting paid (let me say overpaid) for being in a union? Give me a break.

this_is_nascar 162 Posted March 1, 2012 Don't put words in my mouth. I never mentioned GM. When's the last time your precious union did anything for you that did not involve putting a buck in the unions pocket as well? You do realize that unions are "for profit", don't you? Your union is nothing more than a business, with a charter to make money. Guess who paying them?

djg0770 481 Posted March 1, 2012 So, you are one of those who believe GM went bankrupt because of the auto workers union? Very nieve. Well, unions didn't help teach you how to spell properly... I was a member of Teamster's local 177 for almost two years, they didn't do shyt for me, or my buddy two spots down on the factory line that was physically pushed by a non-union supervisor. They sure took my money though without giving me any kind of receipt at any point in time and they certainly didn't do shit to make sure I was safe when I split my head open loading that truck. Unions were necessary when people were getting caught in machinery on a daily basis, getting electrocuted etc. Today, the government takes care of 98% of what the unions were originally designed to do, and both of them (the govt and the unions) suck at their jobs.
this_is_nascar 162 Posted March 1, 2012 Prior to me entering the world of semi-retirement in 2010: - medical. - dental. - bonus program. - 401k with match. - employee discount as participating stores. - 5 weeks vacation. - 2 weeks sick. - partial re-reimbursement of educational expense related to job. - mon thru fri work week, but occasion nights and weekends. - on call, but not bothered much. I'm sure there's more, but that's off the top of my head. You lost any credibility with me with your "job security" statement. Have a good day.

Those 3 things alone are one of the reasons my parents don't hire additional workers for their medical practice. The fact a business needs to cover their employee's healthcare costs is ridiculous! Like I asked the guy, when the last time the union did anything for him that did not profit the union monetarily. Diamond, don't sell yourself short. You can have all of that on your own, without a union, trust me. I'm not one to get into my personal situation and finances, otherwise I'd give you more compelling data to back up what I'm saying. this_is_nascar 162 Posted March 1, 2012 Sorry to whoever I'm going to piss-off here guys, but it's 2012. There is no such thing as job security. You can classify "types" of jobs that will never go away, like undertaker, food services, etc, but to believe that you're particular job your in/doing right now is secure is just setting you up for a really hard fall.
